Walker earns runner-up result at SuperEnduro World Championship final in Albi, France
Jonny Walker has brought his participation in the 2017 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship to a positive close by finishing as overall runner-up at the fourth and final round of the series in Albi, France.
Tied on points with eventual overall winner Alfredo Gomez, Jonny set the fastest time during the one-lap SuperPole session before claiming a commanding win in the opening final. Third in the reversed start order second final, Jonny then ended his night with a strong runner-up result to finish second overall and join Alfredo Gomez and Colton Haaker on the podium.
Jonny ends the 2017 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship third overall, just 15 points behind winner Colton Haaker and eight behind team-mate Alfredo Gomez.
With his participation in the 2017 SuperEnduro series now complete, Jonny now turns his attentions to Extreme Enduro.
Jonny Walker: “After getting the fastest time in the SuperPole and then winning the first final I really felt like I could get the overall win. The reverse start order second final was kind of my undoing – things just didn't go as I hoped they would. I finished third, which wasn’t too bad, but I lost a few points that I needed at the end of the night to get the overall. The track was good, nothing too technical but it made for close racing. I think the three of us – Colton, Alfredo and myself – all wanted to end the series with a strong result, so there was some great racing. Coming off my injury last year, I wasn’t quite on the pace I needed at the start of the series, but things have ended really well. I feel like I showed what I’m capable of at the last two rounds, and switching to the 350 worked out great. In a way it’s a shame that the series has finished, but I’m also looking forward to getting stuck into the extreme races now.”
