Jonny Walker finishes second at Hixpania Hard Enduro
KTM Enduro Factory Racing’s Jonny Walker has brought his 2017 Hard Enduro season to a highly positive close with a runner-up result at the Hixpania Hard Enduro event in Spain.
Jonny’s final outdoor event before he starts his FIM SuperEnduro campaign, the Red Bull Megawatt winner ended the three-day event with a winning result in the opening Prologue before placing second at the end of the first full day or racing before then finishing fourth in the final and closing main event.
Making a winning start to the event by topping the SuperEnduro styled opening prologue, Jonny then finished a strong second in the 144km-long race around Lake Aguilar. A freak yet spectacular loop-out just meters from the finish on the final day ultimately denied Jonny the overall win.
Jonny’s next event will be the opening round of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship in Poland, December 9.
Jonny Walker: “Hixpania has been a great event, I’ve really enjoyed it. Coming so close to the overall win but not quite managing to take it, it’s disappointing. But considering the drama on the very last hill second overall is a positive result. Friday’s Prologue went really well for me. It was tough with such a short lap and so many riders, but I held on to take the win. Saturday went well too, I knew I just had to ride consistently and not make any mistakes - second place there put me equal first going into the final day. The track was great on Sunday, I enjoyed it and was really happy with my speed. I made one mistake that caused me to drop back behind Graham, but after that I was able to really push on. I reached the final hill in third, but managed to loop my bike out nearing the top – it was very strange and pretty spectacular. I finished tied on points with Graham, but in second.”
