RAW Chill Winter Series R1
Lilburn Takes the Chill

Report: Imprint Media

RAW Enduro started their new RAW Chill winter series at Carlton Grange Helmsley on November 19th.

A course was plotted around the Carlton Grange plantation designed to run even if the weather was wet. Always known for its full on woodland nature, as well as being a tough track to master, Carlton Grange always makes riders work for their result.

RAW Chill Winter Series events start with a 30 minute open practice session so riders can get a feel for the course and conditions. After practice a short turn around gives riders time to re fuel and grab a drink before the flag drops on the 2 hour winter event.

Brad Lilburn took the Expert Holeshot closely followed by Tommy Grimmer RAW Team rider Dom Richardson and George England. The latter two clubman riders elected to start with the experts as the overall entry was fairly quiet. After the 2 hours had elapsed Brad Lilburn held a two minute winning advantage over Grimmer at the flag despite Grimmer closing the gap at one stage to just over a minute. Dom Richardson took the Clubman win after George Englandís impressive early race pace slowed after he argued with a tree.

Richard Hawes blitzed the Sportsman Class and has now earned his Clubman class upgrade. Sparring partners Chris Brown and Lewis Moore took runner up and third place on the day after they had a good close battle towards the end of the race. Jonathan Ellis took the Sportsman Vets class win, as Rob Swinbank won the Over 50 class. Swinbank was kept honest in the closing stages by Andrew Dean, Dean he hunted him down on the final lap, at the flag only 30 seconds separated the pair. Steve Johnson known for grinding out a good result took third after he battled all race with no front brake on his KTM, thank goodness there were no steep decents to negotiate!!

Kris Munro had a great race in the Novice class to take the win from Troy Seeviour and Ollie Cousins in third, these three riders were the only Novices to complete 13 laps. Stand out performance of the Day was Bert Boam who rode as a youth rider in the Novice group. Such is the standard of this young man, who incidentally has earned his place as a RAW Supported rider for 2018, he took a fantastic 4th place amongst the Novice adults which was some ride. Tackling the Extreme route on most Laps Bert looks like being a good all round rider as his confidence grows.

Mark Fenwick and Jeremy Ashby had a great battle in the New Sportsman Elite Class, Fenwick grabbing the win by just under a minute at the flag. Simon Nutter took third place on the day.

Even though attendance for slightly low the RAW Chill Winter series has now started in anger and we now look forward to Round 2 at Lee Dell on December 10th where a fresh new challenge awaits riders.

Well done to all riders who attended, we look forward to seeing you all on the Lancashire Hills in a few weeks time!
