the sun has set on yet another TOUGH ONE EXTREME ENDURO....
It is time to thank all concerned in the production and delivery of last weekend’s fantastic event.
As I write this ...Exactly a week ago, The most famous voice in Motorcycling, Jack Burnicle was just firing up his Microphone and his superb vocals were bellowing around the even more famous Nantmawr Quarry, cars where starting to pull in full of excited spectators and an army of staff and helpers of the WOR Events team were on standby, as the 13th edition of the TOUGH ONE kicked off… Even the weather was kind as a blue sky and low winds and a temperature in double figures blessed the day’s proceedings.
The TOUGH ONE event is the a one off!!…. Although we at WOR run endless events and championships including lots of other high profile Extreme / Hard Enduro’s, there is just something about this one,It feels different, GG UK importer John Shirt sent a message after the event saying, it’s the ONLY Enduro meeting of its kind in the UK that makes you feel your're at a WORLD event.
Literally months and months of planning and prep, both behind the scenes and publicly, the effort and commitment of each and every member of staff and helper that signs that WOR Events marshals and staff sheet and then goes on to stick to their tasks and make a safe and proper event unfold, the attention to detail the event has, from the unique riders bibs/ keepsakes to the simple things like 4 quads and 45 radios for staff onsite. The Guys and Girls of WOR Events come and stand out in any weather for this one and do so with unfaltering commitment.
Then there is the Riders, A massive part of the event. The Morning Sportsman / Over 50 and Clubman riders arguably put on the best show of the day as they battle hard and true to do their level best to not win, but just finish or in some cases, complete 1 lap! They come out in their droves and honestly, we could have had 200 riders in that morning race alone if we had not been so sensible as to declare the event full at a realistic number. A humongous thankyou to all those riders from myself and the team for their support of the event. There would be NO TOUGH ONE without the Riders.
When the Main TOUGH ONE kicks off at approx. 1pm, the air of anticipation
in the quarry is haunting, in a good, exciting, goose bumpy way…And I must
say a massive thankyou to those Expert and PRO riders for making the TOUGH
ONE the WORLD-FAMOUS event it is today… The number one Extreme Rider in
the World, Factory Husqvarna Rockstar Energy’s Graham Jarvis, Put on a
master class display of how to tame the quarry at speed and simply dominated
the proceedings to take his 5th T1 win(1 short of matching the king of the
T1 DK), Young South African Factory Beta teenage sensation, Travis Teasdale
took a fantastic Runners up spot and put on a show of warning to all PRO
riders in this scene that he is here and Hungry. What can be said of David
Knight MBE that has not already been said, more achievements in this sport,
this single event and a near decade of World domination that will remain
unsurpassed in many of our lifetimes. Knight’s crowd fanbase is unreal and
the cheers and chanting for him are fantastic to see and hear. He deserved
and fought hard for his 3rd place and Top Privateer status on his JS Gas Gas
UK machine. These top riders along with the likes of Paul Bolton, Jonno
Richardson and all the Pro’s make the T1 the spectacle it is and many a
famous name has been shouted out on Jack’s mic round the quarry over the
years. THANKYOU from me to all the riders be it, Professional and earning a
living or Hobby level and paying to do it simply for fun.
Sponsors, MICHELIN, The title and event partners of this event now for 5 years and of course a Long-term supporter and sponsor of myself and WOR for well over a decade. To have the World’s most well known and respected Tyre Manufacturer stood alongside me and endorsing, supporting and helping me produce this event, I am truly grateful and humbled by and I would like to send out my biggest thanks to the Team at MICHELIN UK, 2 Wheel department based in Stoke for their continued and unsurpassed help. A massive thanks to all our other Sponsors that input into the event, giving help and support, Mainly PUTOLINE OIL and CF RACING…Those 3 main sponsors go above and beyond to make the event happen.
I know this is going on a little now, but some massive thanks must go to the landowners and the locals that allow this event to take place. I’m forever indebted to them for allowing this event. Thank you.
This is where I kick in and can only, simply, jot down my thoughts to really get across the thanks and gratitude that ALL those folks deserve. It’s me that gets the pats on the back, the big thankyous, the handshakes, the texts and messages for days after the event of how good it was…. It’s me that that is recognised as the event creator and Tough One Boss…. And I’m very, very proud of that, as I am with all of our Events. BUT …and it’s a MASSIVE BUT!!! I am nothing and the event is nothing without those people and their help and support.
The TOUGH ONE simply would not and could not run without the lads and lasses inside the big WOR machine that make the cogs turn and produce this event.
I’m doing a roll call here of thanks to the helpers and staff. If I’ve missed anyone I’m truly sorry…
Without these names …. THE 2018 MICHELIN TOUGH ONE would not have
Love always and it goes without saying .. ”YOU ARE ALL TOUGH ENOUGH”
