At the halfway stage 16 year old Will Stanbie from Birmingham is the current leader of the Youth class in the 2018 ACU British Xtreme Enduro Championship organised by Fast Eddy Racing. Enduro News caught up with this promising young rider.
Enduro News: "When did you first start riding offroad?"
Will Stansbie: "I've been riding trials bikes since I was 6 years old, starting with local club trials working up to riding occasional rounds of British Trials Champs and YMSA trials."
EN "How did you do?"
WS "I was so close to getting on the podium at the BTC a few times but 4th places were good so I thought as the following week I would be in the top 5 at BSMA motocross."
EN "What got you into Enduro?"
WS "I did a lot of enduros in my early years for Wyre Forest Off road and I always finishing up near the front but every time I achieved really good results my dad would move me around to different clubs and disciplines. We did this as it was all about the learning rather than what result I got, which I never minded as I just wanted to ride my bikes and the variety kept things interesting. People could never really understand this and said stick with motocross you could be really good and the same with trials and enduro, We even test rode for British Talent cup at Silverstone last summer with Alberto Puig and Jeremy McWilliams. That didn't go to well as I broke my collarbone six days before but I still gave it my best. It was also the end of my British Xtreme Enduro Youth Class challenge. I was running second to Dawson Marriott but missed the last two rounds."
EN "How are things going this year.?"
WS "Good. I was last off the line at the opening round of Eddy's Xtreme in Tong but I kept my head down and worked my way through the field to finish 2nd. I won at Cowm and H2O to take the lead in the Youth Championship. I am looking forward to Round 4 at Ravines near Helmsley .
EN "What bike do you ride?"
WS "2012 Husqvarna cr125cc".
EN "Do you get any support?"
WS "We donít have any sponsors but we are testing for Kenda tyres,
EN "What about the future?"
WS "Iím in year 11, I have done a 3 year pre-apprenticeship throughout high school and I am looking to carry that on and become a electrical engineer. In the next couple of years I also want to see how well I can do offroad against the Adult Expert class but I know I still need to improve a lot to do well".
