BOORMAN COMPLETES LATEST EPIC EXPEDITION BY ANY MEANS WITH ARRIVAL IN
SYDNEY
Celebrity adventurer Charley Boorman today arrived in Sydney to complete his latest and most diverse expedition to date By Any Means. Having set off just over three months ago from his home town of Wicklow in Ireland, the actor and TV star marked the final stage of the epic adventure by leading a motorcycle convoy of over three hundred bikers across Sydney’s Harbour Bridge, finishing the epic journey in Sydney Botanic Gardens. By Any Means, the brainchild of Boorman and Russ Malkin of Big Earth, has seen a three-man crew pass through 24 different countries since April on more than 100 different modes of transport. Boorman, Malkin and cameraman Mungo have filmed every step of the voyage, which will be made into a six part TV series to be shown in the UK on BBC Two from September 2008, and on the National Geographic Channel globally in the New Year. Gritty adventurer Boorman underwent rigorous training in preparation for the journey, having set himself the challenge to travel from Ireland to Sydney through extremely diverse countries and cultures by many different modes of transport other than commercial aircraft. The countries visited include Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Iran, India, Nepal and Indonesia with forms of transport ranging from trains to container ships, dugout canoes, cement barges and solar cars, with Boorman ending the adventure on his best-loved form of transport – the motorcycle. By Any Means is the creation of leading television production company Big Earth, owned by event and filming Producer, Russ Malkin, the organiser of many high profile filmed expeditions including Long Way Round (currently being televised in the UK on BBC Two), Race to Dakar and more recently Long Way Down, which was watched by four million viewers in the UK alone on the BBC and is currently being shown globally on the National Geographic Channel. Commenting on his arrival in Sydney this morning, Charley Boorman said: “We’ve been on the road since April, having visited an unbelievable variety of countries and cultures, via more modes of transport than I could have imagined existed. It’s amazing to finally have arrived in this incredible city and to have received such a warm welcome.” Fans can find out more about Charley’s journey at: www.byanymeans.co.uk |
