Gethin wins the Time WOR
Event Report: K. Williams

"WOR Events produced a tough and challenging time card enduro last weekend and just how they should be, the times where set tight top challenge the riders. Steve Ireland is a firm believer in the fact that a Timecard Enduro should be won, as much on the going as on the tests, and with so many current TC Enduros having slack times and a fast test, the WOR Boss man made sure this one was set to seriously push the majority of the entry.
Set over a big, forest only based lap, the course had everything, fire roads, single track, ups, downs, ruts, roots, puddles, shale banks, a small quarry section and a small but neat 3 minute test that was really in the depths of the forest with a fast climbing forest machine track out of the test and a very tricky downhill bank back to the test finish.
Gethin Humphreys was in unstoppable form on his GasGas 300, having just jumped on to the machine and in his second competitive event on the Bike, the youngest Humphreys brother looks a weapon indeed as he seems to just blitz the ground below him. Gethin eventually finished 34 seconds ahead at the front of the pack with GNCC star and top UK Export, Jason Thomas as the Runner Up. Thomas back in the UK was on a borrowed WOR GG demo bike and looked his usually committed self with 100% effort. Making it a GasGas 1,2 3 in the Experts was young Tom Knight with a brilliant effort and ride to just pip Rikki Mair by 7 seconds over the tests. A final thought on just how well Gethin Humphreys was going was that the final lap of the day for the riders was timed very tight and only the quicker, fitter ones would clean this… Runner Up Jason Thomas came in on his minute and is no slouch at all, Gethin arrived 3 minutes early as though just breezed in. Good stuff in deed.
John Shirt, the Gas Gas UK importer made it another red machine topping a class as he claimed the Expert Vets win on his 250 2t over Karl Greenhall (KTM)going well as Runner Up.
Clubman Victory belonged to Martin Williams by 35 seconds. Williams stayed clean on time on the going but was beaten by Runner Up, Matthew Harries on the tests. If Harries had not lost a minute on the going it would have been a different story at the sharp end of the class results. 3rd place went Aeron Humphreys whom actually stayed clean on time but could not match the test times of the top two Clubman.
Jeremy Mold was the man to beat in the Over 40 group with a brilliant ride and a 2 minute plus winning margin over Kev Wallace as Runner Up and Ryan Fallows in the 3rd place spot a further 2 minutes down on Wallace.
Phillip George at 56 years young is getting faster as he gets older and the proof was in the pudding as he was the only Over 50 rider to clean the tight schedule set by Steve Ireland and comfortably won the group by 6 minutes, although on test times it would have been just seconds in it with Runner Up, Yamaha mounted Chris Edwards. Edwards enjoying his first WOR Event and coming back for many more. 3rd Over 50 was hard earned by Local Farming Guru, Gareth "Rhug" Jones a further 3 minutes down on Edwards.
John Carter was top Sportsman from Matthew Mills with John Mcgurk in 3rd spot, Top Novice was Lukas Jones with Paul Lloyd and Graham Howard in 2nd and 3rd spot respectively.
To sum up it was a cracking event, planned and ran to perfection by the WOR team. Certainly, shocked any riders that thought they where coming for stroll round the woods on lazy times and the structure of the event and course design really was a template for how a good old fashioned, proper, traditional timecard enduro used to be and more importantly should always be. Well done to all riders.
WOR would as always like to thank all of the staff and helpers, medics, caterers, sponsors, land owners and event folk but most of all the riders for turning up in a dreary week of December weather and making the hard work of the WOR team worthwhile.
WOR would like to - one last time - ask riders not to book in then not come…Its not nice all round…
