Loons take 3 class wins @ Highland Hare & Hounds
Young Fraser Norrie took Top Honours of the day by taking the chequered flag in the Adult Solo Class ahead of Barry Gray of Inverurie after 28 testing laps over the much extended Highland track at Whiteness, third place went to British Champion Quad racer John Mitchell from Stornaway, out for some fitness training in the solo class, oh by the way, he had just Won the hour long Adult Quad race 10 minutes previous to jumping onto his solo yam to compete in the 3 hour solo race, stamina or what ? Top local riders in the adult solo class were Highland Club Champion Aaron McCarroll of Forres in 3rd place on 26 laps, closely followed by Veteran rider Gavin Johnston of Inverness, also on 26 laps. The Adult Team race, run in conjunction with the solos saw father and son pairing Duncan and Ruairidh MacArthur from Avoch take top honours with a clear win on 26 laps ahead of Lossiemouth pair, Ian Souter and B Aulder on 24 laps, well done to Wallace Burns (also from Avoch)in third spot,3 laps down, held back by tea mate Dode Fraser of Nairn, out for a Sunday drive. A special mention must go to our Celebrity Team consisting of Colin McGregor, Bobby Nelson and Kevin Matheson, well done lads, congratulations on finishing the race, must have been quite a steep learning curve for you all ? Good fun though eh ? Moving onto the Schoolperson Classes, in the 125/250 class it was another Turriff loon who took top spot, Jordan Hayes on his KTM125 on 10 laps ahead of 2nd placed Ross Shaw of Rogart, also on 10 laps. The big wheeled 85cc class was won by another KTM Turriff loon Duncan Norrie, and a special mention for Duncan as he also took the Overall Win in this race ahead of the 125's and 250's, a star of the future me thinks. The small wheeled 85cc class saw local riders take the top 2 spots, Ian Findlay or Inverness, the Winner on his Moto1 KTM ahead of Kierran McCarroll of Forres, also KTM mounted. Ben Edwards of Elgin took the Honours in the 65cc class, finishing on the same 10 laps as the big bikes, 2nd spot going to Daniel Dey of Forres on 8 laps, well done to all the riders on the small wheeled machines, as the going was quite tricky in places over the long circuit. The Adult Quad race was full of well travelled competitors from as far afield as Airdrie to Stornaway, with Islander John Mitchell taking the win ahead of Scottish Champion Leon Beda after an hour long dice for race supremecy. Top Adult Quad Team were Inverness Riders Don MacIver and Murray Elliot finishing on 9 laps. The Senior Schoolpeson Quad class saw Connor Smith from Stevenston take the win ahead of Blair Brown, both Yamaha mounted, whilst in the Junior Class it was Girl Power to the fore with Zoe Neill of Stevenston taking the Overall Win. A Big Thanku to the First Aiders, the lapscorers and officials who made the day possible, Great fun was had by All. Don't forget, the 2009 Highland Championship Season starts on January the 25th, so best join now and get into training soon. Next Local Event is at Grampian MCC's Woodside Circuit , Elgin on Jan 4th, another 3 hour bash, just to clear the head after the New Year. SACU/ Safe Access Scottish Motocross Championship Rd 4 – Ardersier Highland MXC Report : Graham Milne .......Pictures : Dode Fraser JUST a stone’s throw from the battle field of Culloden, where the Scottish team saw its downfall on April 16 1746, the Highland MXC’s battle ground at Ardersier, just outside Inverness, was the site of yet more historic duels where Englishman Graham Riley came to defend his Scottish Motocross Championship lead from another Scottish onslaught. However, through hellish bad luck and a huge get off, Riley lost his championship lead during the fourth round last weekend to former Scottish champion Neil Flockhart. Even so, it was super-fit Tony Craig’s day with two race wins splitting a second race second spot who took the overall honours with Neil and his come-back king brother and reigning Scottish MX champ Stuart Flockhart who completed the podium in runner-up and third places respectively.

The Adult A's were dominated by Tony Craig who revelled on the High speed circuit, Pete Mitchell followed him home in each race , followed by Dean Scott showing a great turn of speed on his new RM250 Suzuki stroker. Don't look at me Dean, watch where yer goin....!!!! The Adult B's saw some very close competitive racing throughout the day with Kevin Milne coming out on top by a narrow margin over Alan Thain with Hannah McLeod in 3rd spot, Hannah lost out to Kevin in Race 1 on the very last corner, that wasn't very gentlemanly of U kevin ? The C group saw Mike Scott Junior take 3 convincing wins in fine style. 2nd spot went to SC Jim Stuart with 3 third placings, there's life in the old Fella yet, c'mon U young inns, see n keep up, Liam, imagine letting your Granda beat U..........again. Moving onto the Schoolperson classes, in the 125/250 class it was Lewis Dawson who dominated with 3 straight race wins , followed home each time by Grant Fraser who has come on in leaps and bounds since moving up a class. Yound Stewart Kelman made the trip from Grantown on Spey worthwhile by taking a well earned 3rd overall. The spectators were treated to an excellant display of close racing in the 85 B/W class between Lachlan Josey and Iain McKenzie as they battled for points, Lachlan coming out on top by a margin 2. Josh Craig took 3rd overall, only 3 points adrift from Iain. Moto One Team cam , saw n conquered in the 85 S/W class with Ian Findlay taking 3 race wins, closely followed home by Shaun sinclair from Elgin.
Kieran out front again. Last but not least, The Auto Class where Aidan Campbell excelled again with 3 straight wins ahead of Liam Clark who in turn was closely followed by Finlay Retson. A big thanku to all at Aberdeen and District for laying on a great event. Remember Guys n Galls, our Motox Circus heads for the Highland Club at Whiteness this weekend for Round 5 of the HMXC Championship, there's been a few wee track mods, just 2 keep U lot on yer toes, C U all Sunday..........
Pete Mitchell took by the overall result in the A's with 2 wins and a 2nd, giving him a 5 point advantage over Scott Findlay who secured the win in race 1. Local rider Shaun Stewart from Lossiemouth split the visiting riders to secure a well deserved 3rd place overall. Pete Mitchell heads for the Finish Line.....Speedway Style.......... Also with 2 race wins was Leon Murray from Tuffiff showing that it is skill and ability that counts and not cc as he took his 125cc KTM to an overall victory in the B's. 5 points adrift in 2nd place was Jim Allan, well travelled from Hamilton. 3rd spot went to Young Hannah Macleod on another Ktm 125. Callum Davidson in the B's looking for somewhere safe 2 land ?? Again in the C Group overall honours went to a rider with 2 Race wins, in this case it was Mike Scott Jnr 14 points clear of Phil Goffin in 2nd spot, finishing just ahead of pensioner Jim Stuart, with Jim's Young apprentice, Dode fraser in 4th spot, great fun. Only maximum points adult rider of the day was Ross Kelman with 3 straight wins in the vets with Alister Robertson in 2nd spot with Gordy Brown in 3rd, that was Gordy's first time out on the bike since his nasty accident a few months ago. Onto the Schoolpersons, quite a few o them girls get in on the act now U know, from the Autos, rite thru to the Adults, and they're very quick 2. In the Auto class it was local Hero Aidan Campbell of Nairn who took 3 straight race wins and maximum points ahead of Findlay Retson of Inverness in 2nd spot with far travelled visitor Alexander brown of Whitburn getting the better of Findlay in the last race to secure 3rd overall for the day, these youngsters have great fun on their separate track complete with berms, jumps etc, the stars of the future. Finlay Retson powers his way round the top o the berm. The 65 class saw some very good racing throughout the day, but guess what ? every race result was the same at the chequered flag. 1st Kieran Hunter, 2nd Ash Darling, 3rd Ben Edwards and 4th Lewis Campbell, I think they must have drawn strays at the start ? Kylie Shaw grabs the holeshot in the 65's The 85 small wheel class saw Invernessian Ian Findlay take the Overall win with 2 firsts and a second ahead of race 2 winner Shaun Sinclair from Elgin ahead of 3rd place man Douglas Campbell of Lochgilphead. The 85 big wheel class honours went to Iain Mackenzie with race wins in race 1 and 2, however race 3 was a different story as Aussie Lachlan Josey managed to get ahead and hold it to the chequered flag, Iain pushed him hard but Lachlann kept his cool and powered thru to a well deserved win with Iain finishing close behind him. Josj Craig of Lossie took 3rd overall in the dusty conditions. The 125 class saw the top 5 riders take the same placings in each race throughout the day with kevin Macdonald of Nairn taking the honours by a clear margin in each race, Jamie Kerr did well to finish 4th overall on a borrowed machine, well done lads n lassies, see U all again soon. A special thanku 2 Davy with the water bowser, without who's help the event would not have been able 2 go ahead in the extremely dry conditions we are experiencing at the moment, thanku also to Xtreme North and Hewden Hire, our sponsors, plus all the workers, first aid, officials, marshalls etc etc. Points for North East Area Championship will be available shortly and remember Round 3 is this coming sunday the 1st of June at Pennan, run by the Buchan Club.
It was a big meeting at Whiteness, Ardersier on last Saturday and Sunday when the Highland Motocross Club hosted Round 2 of the 2008 Youth Scottish Championships. The event attracted entries from the best young riders in Scotland, and also some from England and Ireland, who gave a stunning display of their skills in this very fast and exciting sport. On the Saturday, each rider had three races and they then had a further two races on Sunday. Although it was a meeting focussing on the different categories of young (school age ) riders, the adults were not forgotten and they had three races for each of their groups on the Sunday. Once again, KEIRAN HUNTER OF FOCHABERS excelled when the pressure was on in the ' 65cc ' races. He was consistently near the front in all five races and earned a great second place overall. Elgin's BEN EDWARDS wasn't far behind in this 18 strong field and his fifth place was very well deserved because of his confident and capable display over the whole meeting. In the ' 85 Big Wheel', IAIN McKENZIE of KEITH was always in the top five riders, but no points in the final race put paid to his hopes of finishing in the top three. His race rival and friend, Josh Craig from Lossiemouth, did well to take 13th place as he wisely kept his pace down to allow himself to fully recover from an accident two weeks ago. Cameron Pendreich from Lanark was the ' Big Wheel ' winner.
Keiran McCarroll's older brother, Aaron, raced in the ' '250 Schoolperson ' group and he kept up with the leaders to earn 6th place overall. Falkirk's Gary Sharp was first and Clinton Duff of Freuchie was second.
Winner of the ' Auto ' class was Aidan Campbell of Inverness with six straight wins. (They had three races each day.) There were also races, on the Sunday only, for the adults and these were split into ' 125 Adult' and ' Adult Open'. The '125' was won by Sean Macdonald of Kirriemuir, while former Scottish Adult Champion Neil Flockhart (left) of Ellon came a close second. With one first and two third places, Elgin's GEORGE STEWART earned third place in the ' Adult Open' while Fort Augustus brothers Simon and Donny Kennedy made it a family double with first and second respectively. JUNIOR REPORT BY: IAN FINDLAY...... The track is at its best. Any riders will agree that the jumps are nice and sharp, the and the corners are perfectly rounded off, what more can you ask for. A perfect days racing at the second round of the highland motocross championship. Starting of in the auto category Oliver Consterdine (left) from Manchester in England made his trip to Scotland worth while as he claimed two first and one second place on his Judo Racing KTM. However Aidan Campbell from Inverness gave Oliver a run for his money claiming 2 seconds and a first to give him 2nd overall. Another fast improving Finlay Retson also from the highlands capital claimed 3rd position with 2 third places and one fourth. Moving onto the 65cc class where Kieran Hunter is beginning to make a name for himself as Hunter and Ash Darling battled it out in every corner, every jump, every lap. At the end of the day Hunter came out on top and Ash Darling second. Ben Edwards is rapidly improving on his KTM as he settled down to take three third positions throughout the day. Onto the S/W 85cc class Ian Findlay from Inverness recently moving up to the 85cc class dominated all three of his races to claim 1st overall, Second place went to Shaun Sinclair as he was slightly infront of Kieran McCarrol while Sinclair took 3 2nd positions and McCarrol took 2 3rds and a 4th. Moving onto the B/W 85cc class Josh Craig from Lossiemouth claimed 3 1st place finishes as Craig and Iain Mackenzie from Keith battled it out every lap in every race While Iain claimed 2nd overall. 3rd place went to Jake Anderson who claimed 3 3rd places. Onto the 125cc class where Paul Skeleton is just dimollishing every other rider taking three wins out of three. Lewis dawson claimed second not too far behind Skeleton taking three 2nd places giving him second overall throughout the day. Lewis seemed to be battling with Jamie Kerr at the start of every race but soon Dawson was gone and Kerr just rode his own race in third taking 2 3rd places and 1 fourth place. SENIOR REPORT BY DODE FRASER: As Ian described earlier,,,,,,,FIRST CLASS RACING on a TOP NOTCH CIRCUIT......... that seemed to be the concensus for the day as every class saw very close racing throughout the day from start to finish, with constantly changing positions, especially midpack, where every club point was fought long and hard for. The A class saw Tony Craig of Inverbervie clear off into the distance to take 3 flag to flag wins, leaving fellow Aberdonian Pete Mitchell to settle for 2nd O/A ahead of Local Lossie Loon Shaun Stewart in 3rd. The B class saw some of the closest racing of the day with Richard Kirk of Turriff tying on points with Robert Thomson from Auldearn, 125cc KTM against the might of a big bore 450 Honda. Guess what ? the 125 came out on top, virtue of 2 race wins. Well done Richard...... John Mackenzie, whilst nursing some damaged ribs , still managed to take 3rd spot on his KTM ahead of Steven Macdonald of Nairn. Mitchell Brown of Nairn took a race win in the second moto and 3rd spot in the final moto, unfortunately machine problems in race 1 dropped him out of the reckoning, never mind Mitch, there's always next time. The Vets were run alongside the B group with Ross kelman of Grantown on Spey dominating with 3 clear wins, had he been racing in the B Group, he would have won that as well, no bad going for an Oldie......... Duncan Macartur of Avoch took 3 clear 2nd spots leaving Quick starting Martin Kirk and Dode Fraser to battle it out for 3rd spot, every race went down to the last few corners of the last lap with Dode just managing to nip past in the closing stages of each race. The C class saw young Liam Campbell of Stonehaven burst into the lead of every race from lap 1, however in the latter stages of each race his pace dropped off leaving Craig Mackay of Nairn to take the win having worked his way thru from 5th on lap 1. closely followed by Mike Scott Jnr who took the O/A with wins in race 2 and 3 with Craig settling for 2nd O/A . Third O/A went to Veteran rider Kenny Sutherland with 3 wiley rides, Kenny should really move over to the Vet class and give the rest O us a race. A big thanku to Weldex & Hewden Hire for their sponsorship support, also to all the workers, lapscorers, marshalls, firstaid services etc etc, without whose help, these events could not go ahead, thanku again. Next Highland Event is Round 3 of the Club Championship on march the 30th. whilst B4 that Buchan Offroad have their first event of the 2008 Season at Pennan, contact Neil Alexander on 07702 194 561.
A very muddy day at whiteness caused a lot of riders to struggle in the deep and sticky mud but certainly not for Ryan Archibald of Linlithgow riding his KTM. 50 he just was flying across the mud as if it wasn't even there he was unbeatable all day. Although Ryan was flying Alexander Brown from Whitburn was also putting on an impressive display claiming second overall not far behind ryan. Rapidly improving local Inverness rider Finally Retson was on top form as usual claiming third but could not catch Ryan or Alexander. In the 65cc class it was very hard for them young riders coping with that conditions on the big track it was that bad the third race was then moved to the 50cc class track. Talking about struggling in them conditions but not for Kieran Hunter of Fochabers as in every race he grabbed the holeshot and never looked back claiming 3 out of 3 victorys. In the sport of motocross its not just boys that is fast there are alot of girls out there that are faster than all the boys and Tara Macleod is one of them she was handling the conditions just as good as Kieran was and claimed second on the day. A young rider that is used to winning races alot is Daniel Dey who has recently stepped up from the 50cc class into the 65cc class and did remarkably well for his first race claiming 3rd overall in the 65cc category. Moving onto the 85cc small wheel class where alot of riders just like Daniel has moved up from the 65cc class to race in the 85cc class. Ian Findlay from Inverness who has recently moved up from the 65cc class has been racing in the 85cc category claiming first overall. Not far behind Findlay was Ian Stewart of Forfar on his 150 honda where he was flying through the mud to claim second overall. Robert Smith, Kirriemuir also was another rider who has stepped up from the 65cc class to the 85cc class claiming third overall on his KTM. Kieran mcCaroll of Forres is another rider that has moved up from the 65cc category as he was been consistent all day to sit in fourth behind Smith. Moving onto the 85bw class Lossie loon Josh Craig did what he is very good at and that is winning. He claimed first on his Dennis Irvine KTM after a hard days battling with Iain Mackenzie of Keith who claimed second overall in the same class as josh. Jake Anderson of Scrabster claimed third in the bw class. In the 125cc category local Invernessian rider Paul Skeleton who mirrored the performance of Josh Craig by taking two first places and a second place over Alan Shields. Battling it out all through the day with skeleton Alan Shields claimed second overall with 2 seconds and a first. While Paul and Alan were battling it out so were Jamie Kerr and Hannah Mcleod for third place. They were battling it out all day changing positions all through the day between themselves but Kerr came out on top by a matter of two precious points. Junior report compiled by Ian Findlay. The Adult C's race season got of 2 a good start for Mike Scott Jnr of Kintore with an overall victory, 3 points ahead of James Barrock who after a poor showing in race 1, won both race 2 and 3 in convincing form. Local Nairn rider Craig Mackay did well with 3rd overall. The B's and Vets were let loose out on the track 2gether with Top Vet Stuart Kelman of Grantown on Spey showing most o the B riders the way home, no bad for an oldie. However , young Corp, alias Robert Thomson of Auldearn was on a mission, new class, new bike, great results, 2 wins and a second giving him the overall win, well done that boy. 2nd place went to another youngster, Richard kirk of Auchterless who put in 3 good rides on his 125 KTM, showing engine size does not matter, its rider skill that's the name o the game. Duncan Macarthurof Avoch, having recovered from last seasons injuries, started his season with trio of 2nd placings, the Veteran Class is gonna see some interesting racing in 2008. Finally on to the Premier A class, well supported with a good field of quality riders from as far afield as Wick to Fife with top rider of the day being Pete Mitchell of Drumoak taking 2 race wins and a third. Second spot went to Jamie Duncan who improved his placings throughout the day , finishing with a race win. Only 2 points behind was Elgin Flyer George Stewart with 3 consistant rides. Shaun Stewart of Burghead got the holeshot in all 3 races with his best result being 2nd in race 3, keep it up Shaun. A great day was had by all, a big Thanku to James Beattie for his assistance, early Sunday morning, thanku again to all the workers, marshalls, first aiders etc etc who all make these events possible.
