Stang

The Husqvarna North of England Enduro Championship Round 3

The Stang - 24th June NREC

With possibly the worst rain fall in June for 50 years, the conditions in the Stang forest were going to be testing to say the least, with standing water and heavy showers during the event, the hard working north riding enduro club did there best to plot a ride able course of some 17 miles containing two time checks, but they were fighting a battle with a deteriorating course, having to make alterations to the route in order to keep the event moving, with these conditions in mind the road times had set on the generous side, but as the conditions worsened riders were still going to struggle to keep time.

With the championship and experts scheduled for 4 laps' clubmen 3 and the sportsmen 2 the day would prove to be too much for many of the competitors. In the championship class MPS Racing Husky rider Gavin "airtime" Houson put in another masterful display of skilful riding to take the overall win making the conditions look easy but Gav still managed to lose a few minutes on the last check. David Myres worked hard for a well deserved 2nd places in the Championship class, with Murray Thompson taking 3rd. Biff Smith had another good win in the expert class on his Dave Clarke Racing Husaberg while in the clubmen class the overall win and best E2 went to young Tim Pattinson on his DBT ktm 200 Tim was one of a few riders in the clubman that remained clean on time , Richard Dakin was the best club E1, and old hand john Kerwin won the clubman E3 class.

Just over 60 riders finished the arduous course out of the 130 starters Pete Weatherill spokesman for the north riding club said, its been a hard day for the riders and congratulations to all that have finished, we had set the course out over a month ago to be an easier event than last year, but the rain we have had has been unbelievable for mid summer, and has ruined all our efforts but we had to continue with the event as there was no other time it could run, we hope riders will come and support the event. Again next year were we will be revising the course lay out.
