Welsh 2 Day

Joe Wootton wins Welsh 2 Day
Like the swallows in Summer, the ET James Welsh 2 Day has once again returned to it's home in Llandrindod Wells. The weather forecast for the week threatened rain but the leaden skies only yielded a couple of light showers  At 7.15am on Thursday morning the campers around the lakeside were awoken by the rattle of the Marshals setting off to open the course. The PA tannoy squeaked into life with the reassuring voice of Elwyn Price calling the faithful Sidecars drivers to the Start. At 8,00am the first two outfits rumbled into life and the 2017 Welsh 2 Day Enduro had begun. Weaving through the town the riders had barely enough time to warm their engines before the new test at Crossgates. Alex Snow set the fastest time - half a second ahead of Janie Lewis, Test 2 was at Saints Well and the Championship class had 2 runs. Joe Wootton was the quickest on the first run but Lee Sealey put in a flyer on the second run. At Abbeycwmhir Dan Mundell won the first run while Lee Sealey took the last. When the times were totted up Lee Sealey had won the first day - two tenths of a second ahead of Joe Wootton, Dan Mundell was 3rd. Jay Thomas (E3) was the best Expert. Alex Walton was the Best E1 and Roger Holland took the E2. On Day 2 the riders were flagged away from 7.00am. Heavy overnight rain had greased the grass at Abbeycwmhir. Dan Mundell got to grips with the wet ground and he set the fastest time. Daryl Bolter - in search of a 6th Premier - took the 2nd test. At Saintewell Joe Wootton jumped to the top of the leader board on the MX test. Daryl came back with another quick lap but Joe took the Overall with the 2 fastest times on the final tests at Crossgates. Pushing hard for the win Jamie Lewis crashed at the last hurdle. Alex Snow was runner up and Daryl Bolter was third. Lee Sealey was 4th and Dan Mundell was 5th. Jay Thomas (Best E3) was the Best Expert, Alex Walton (Best E1) was runner up and Roger Holland (Best E3) was 3rd. David Williams and Luke Peters won the Sidecar class. Andrew Edwards - riding his 1996 Suzuki - was the Best Veteran Expert ahead of Rob Wrayford and Paul Davies. In the Clubman class Scott Lewis was the Best E3 and the quickest overall. Tom James won the E2 and Lewis Ranger took the E1. With the Old Iron boys out in force Alun Jones topped a good entry of 41 Classic riders. Results Day 1 - Day 2Overall - Photos
