WOR EVENTS MICHELIN XCE
Rd 2

@ Maeshafn, June 15th
Report: Keith Williams

The WOR Events Michelin XCE series continued with the 2nd round of the 2014 series taking place at the clubs Maeshafn venue in Flintshire last Sunday. A good turn out of riders were present to enjoy the mx type, cross country, 2hr hour enduro race over the recently graded and dusty in places 4 mile course. ;The weather was cloudy but after the heat of the previous few days it was a welc'mome relief to have a breeze and some cloud cover.

After the very busy start to the championship in May at Baden Hall the numbers were down but the quality of the racing was still top drawer, Leading from start to finish was the Midwest Husqvarna 125 of Lee Sealey. Sealy rode smooth and consistent to take a easy win in class with Chris Hughes on the KTM and Steve Hughes on the CF Racing Husqvarna in runners up and bronze placing respectively with all 3 doing 14 laps of the demanding North Wales Mountainside. A special mention must go please to the fastest man on the track though that was Sean Eckersley ....Eckersley was 5 minutes late for the start and joined the race late but some of his lap times were so fast and consistent that he would have pushed and maybe even beaten Sealey if he had made the start flag.

The Expert Veterans were again topped by Chris Wagstaff and his trusty Yamaha yz250 2t , Waggy started slowly but soon toppled runner up Alex Owen with a gutsy 14 laps that actually had the Shrewsbury based builder finish the event in a fine 2nd place overall, so job well done Wagstaff. Stephen Parry was 3rd behind Owen albeit a lap down.

Paul Engerlen had a very strong ride in the Clubman 2t group and he edged out a 3 minute lead over runner up, Rossi Davies and an even bigger lead over third placed Huw Edwards, all 3 riders doing a well deserved 13 laps.

The Clubman 4t class was again in the control of young Will Emery as he took the Husqvarna 250f to a 30 second winning margin over the hard charging and impressive Joe Smith. The bronze trophy going to Tom Edwards just over a minute down on Smith, again 13 laps was the achieved target.

Barry Boustead is a quick over 40's rider but a recent run of bad luck and bad planning have left him high and dry, Not this time though as he blasted from start to finish with a class win and a near 1 minute advantage over Clubman veteran "man to beat", Julian Rylance. Julian rode well to take the silver spot from third placed man, Martin Wells. Stacey Greensal had a good ride too and rode his socks off to finish 4th even with a puncture for a big period of the race.

Over 50's victory went to Colin Jones on the Kawasaki 250f with a dominant ride to shake off his old riding buddy and challenger, Gareth Lloyd. Both riders had to get past the smooth and stylish Phil Rowett though as he was leading the class right up to over the 1hr mark. Again the over 50 class was well supported.

Rob Simpson is in good form and continued his winning ways from the Putoline Hare Scrambles series and topped the Sportsman class by 5 minutes from runner up Leon Brooks and 3rd placed Glesni Jones. Glesni had been pushing hard near the top of the class until a shortage of fuel cost her some important time, still enough in the tank though to finish on the podium and best lady too.

Dan Davies was the sole TM rider in the event and he did really well to put himself at the top of the Youth class by just over 1 and a half minutes from runner up, Ryan Shacklady. Hubert Szymczykiewicz took a fine third place to round out the podium. Special mention to Aiden Ferrell as he was in the lead of the group and riding really well, improving with every ride, however a puncture took him out the race and a lesson was learnt to get some moose's'.

Matt Sylvester topped the Novice group from Thomas Walker and Tom Powis in a hard fought race with Sylvester credited with 12 laps to the other guys 11 circuits.

A slick and pleasant Trophy ceremony took place within minutes of the finish and with the sunshine now out it was a perfect end to a perfect race with no injuries an das expected from the WOR team clockwork organisation.

WOR EVENTS MICHELIN XCE (CROSS COUNTRY ENDURO) SERIES
Rd 1 - BADEN HALL - STAFFORDSHIRE - MAY 2014.

Report By K.Williams

WOR Events kicked off the start of their new MICHELIN XCE series in fine style at the always popular Baden Hall circuit in Staffordshire last Sunday. In gorgeous sunny weather the 5 mile circuit was prepped perfectly and twisted its way around the old military bomb testing site that utilised all of the venues many woodlands and flowing field sections, a real hearty mix for the cross country enduro racer indeed.

With the days of 3hr hare and hounds becoming less popular and more riders opting for the more intense 2 hour duration races instead it seems a good call by WOR to make this new 5 round Michelin series, all straight 2 hour events with the winner simply being the rider covering the most laps in the time allowed.

A massive line up of riders with an extremely strong Expert group took to the start grid for the 11am start. Colwyn Bay KTM supported Brad Freeman is in great form this year at the sharp end of the British Enduro scene, and by lap 2 of this race he was in the lead and never moved from there. Blasting the little 125 around the woods like the trees were not there, the likeable Midlands based youngster looked every inch a top level jockey as he took a 1 minute 6second win from runner up Owain Humphreys. ;Owain is certainly a very' fast rider and on the MRS Sherco 2t the North Wales based Humphreys was locked in superb race long battle with Midwest Husqvarna 125 mounted Lee Sealey. The quality of the riding from the top 3 youngsters , all on 2t machinery was a delight to watch and come the end of the race only 5 seconds separated Humphreys from Sealey. All the top seven in the Expert class managed 11 laps with Jon Hunt, Antoine Criq ,Alex West and Harry Eccles being the magnificent seven that hit the 11 laps target.

Chris Wagstaff battled the heat and the dust to again be man to beat when it comes to the Veteran classes. Topping the Expert Vets by over 6 minutes from runner up Anthony Tempest with the consistent Gary Skelding in the 3rd podium spot, all 3 on 10 laps.

Usually WOR run class derived Veteran classes with a Clubman Vets and a Sportsman Vets to add to the Experts but for this Michelin XCE series they have mixed it all up again by offering an Over 40's and an Over 50's class, both were very well received with a great turn out in each. The Over 0's class had 18 riders in it with Kawsaki Mounted Colin Jones taking a 18 second win margin over runner up Colin Griffiths, both Colin's on 10 laps and very close to each other all race with Griffiths actually passing Jones and bringing the battle right on. On 9 laps in third place was Gareth Lloyd taking the CF Racing Husqvarna to collect yet another trophy for the cabinet.

The Over 40's group had a great battle going on at the front too with Barry Boustead flying away from the rest of the pack and even catching Expert Veteran Waggy, Boustead was on fire and was set for the win but not far behind him was the smooth and steady Kev Freeman and the always consistent Julian Rylance. Boustead tried to push the full race out of one tank of fuel but by the last lap was on dregs and had to make a fuel stop and lost lots of time messing around, this allowed Freeman to take charge at the front of the class and take the group win by a comfortable margin, Rylance was second with Boustead eventually taking 3rd.

Will Emery on the Husqvarna FE250 was once again unstoppable in the Clubman 4t class as he powered to a 2minute plus victory from runner up Rhys Evans with Henry Partridge in the bronze spot. All 3 doing 10 laps and Emery's performance being good enough to be top overall Clubman.

Nathan Rodgers was in great form too in the 2t Clubman group taking a well earned win in class from runner up and always there or thereabouts, Paul Engerlen. Danny Clark was going great guns to take a well earned podium spot and round out the trophies in that group.

In the Sportsman Group it was David Haith that once again put in a very strong ride to take top honours, Haith in fact doing enough to finish 19th overall out of over 140 riders and effectively promote himself out of the Sportsman group with another top performance. Haith being the only Sportsman rider to complete 10 laps. Runner was the ever improving Rob Simpson, Rob progressing from last years Novice class to the relatively competitive Sportsman group and heading on this form to the Clubman class for 2015. Third place went to Jake Barnard with a very determined ride to finish just 4 seconds behind Simpson.

Josh Haith again made it a successful day for Dad and Lad as he like his father had done in the Sportsman group, took the top place in the Youth group with 9 lpas and a 3 minute advantage over runner up, Aiden Ferrell. 3rd spot in the Youth group went to Dan Davies with a well earned 9 laps to his credit.

Over in the Novice Group it was Matt Silvester from Tom Powis and Raife Mcdonald in 1st , 2nd and 3rd place respectively, all 3 doing 9 laps in the popular Novice category.

To round up then , The WOR Team produced another class event with great weather and a fantastic track for the riders, Brad Freeman showed his class and speed and is the "Michelin Man of the moment", The new MICHELIN series got off to a flying a start and will continue with rd 2 in mid June at the clubs again, always popular Maeshafn venue near Chester.

WOR would like to thank the landowners, staff, caterers, medics, spectators and of course all the riders for making this particular event a success.

WOR'S Next event is on 31st May / 1st June at the brand new Llandovery located Fantastic Fram with a RED Saturday and rd 4 of the PUTOLINE HARE SCRAMBLES ...More details at www.worevents.com
