The season is getting closer……

The last round of the season seems like a distant memory back in November so we caught up with the two Colwyn Bay KTM UK riders to see what they had been up to over the winter break and what they had planned for the 2015 season.

So Tom and Brad what have you been up to over the winter?

Tom “I’ve taken some time out over the later part of October/November to use that as my winter break then started back out on the bike in December. I’ve been helping out doing some training schools with Dr Shox and the Jones’s Enduro School to keep on top of my bike fitness. I’ve also started back at the gym and healthy eating started again in January after far too many chocolates over Christmas”.

Brad “I haven't really been doing much over the winter obviously with my injury**, after doctors gave me the all clear to ride the final round of the BEC, I went back for a check up mid December they said it wasn't healed and so I needed some more time off. I’ve been having physio and doing light exercises to help strengthen it, hopefully in the next few weeks I will be able to advance in the exercises and start strength and cardio at the end of January”. ** Brad’s referring to a back injury that took place whilst training in October.

Your plans over the 2015 season?

Brad “After the results of 2014, I would like to improve on them again. As I’m only 18 I still have the opportunity to complete in the FIM World Youth Cup, so that’s one I’m going to be focusing on, I will still be competing in the British Enduro championship and the new xcountry championship that the ACU have launched for this year”.

Tom “Obviously I would like to retain my British title for another year, I will need to work hard for it this year, I had a close battle with Danny (McCanney) in 2014 but 2015 sees the return of Jamie McCanney, Steve Holcombe had a lot of speed to towards the end of the season and the rumour is David Knight is to return, and I’m getting old (he laughs). No seriously I will try my hardest to retain my title and of course I would love the overall European title, I came so close last year but my DNF in Spain had me of the back foot from the start”.

Where’s the next event that you’ll competing in?

Tom “Well originally I planned to compete in some local clubs events to ease myself back in. But I’ve agreed to ride at Eddy’s Extreme on 25th January that will be a challenge in itself, the last extreme I rode was in 2013 I think”.

Brad “I’m next competing at Warley Wasps MX, just to bring my speed up ready for the sand in Elgin the first round of the BEC. I also have a couple of Dr Shox boot camps to do before then, they are great for all aspects of fitness on and off the bike”.
