HETHFELTON FOREST 08-02-2015
Report & Photo Teamsnapper
A very much awaited event on a cracking forestry bit of land that only
gets used every other year and without fail the DPMCC team have put out a
cracking proper 5.5 mile forest loop with no silly bogs or stoppers and a
full entry that had a reserve list as well and the riders were 50/50 split
from the South West and South East and glorious winter sunshine it really
has all the ingredients for a superb event….. And it did not disappoint.
And for all other clubs please note that the Catering is best in the south (Kingsbere
Kitchen) with proper quality food and were ready for business at 0730.
CHAMPIONSHIP CLASS
What a cracking race at the pointed end of Championship class with previous
winner Nick Life getting a great start and leading with a good lead after 1
lap but reeling him back in after a bad start was Bradley King who so wants
to win this event as his Uncle Tony king did in 2004 and I feel it was more
want and passion that drove him on to catch and pass Nick but only to be
short lived due to fuel stops and it went down to the wire with both Nick
and Bradley posting their fastest laps on the final lap but as I said
passion is a great turbo boost and Bradley took the victory by a few seconds
and as always Bradley’s parents Alan and Louise were there and the usual
stoic figure of Alan was visibly moved, sadly Tony King was not there due to
bad health, 3rd Kyle Jacobs whom was solid throughout and had to work hard
early on but seemed to stick to his race plan and not get embroiled in any
sprint racing which proved right and a much deserved final podium place,
Cornwall’s Ross Hancock just makes riding a bike look like child’s play
with his effortless lazy style whom you never see out of shape and maybe he
just needs to get angry and frustrated to get that final piece of the jigsaw
to better 4th place, 5th Daniel Price who does not seem to get much luck and
today was no different at the start but recovered well and despite blowing
out of his arse towards the end he rode awesome and bike fit … who knows,
6th former winner Phil Studley whom had a serious injury here a couple of
years back and with me telling him to take it easy due to felled trees,
stumps and more brash than ever before he was beaten before the off but on
the plus side equalled 13 laps of the winners and hopefully gained a bit of
confidence back without my help and guidance, 7th trials ace Rob Pollard who
was very much up the pointed end early race but as the going got flattened
and hazards become easier the true enduro boys made their moves but very
much impressed me the way he rode over newly felled brash and branches,
legend Stan Watt enthusiastic as ever and today was a proper shakedown test
on new machinery in the guise of Beta and managed to complete 12 laps,
Rogershill Raceway Guru and good friend Danny Hall managed 8 laps before his
day ended prematurely as did the evening before according to his lovely wife
Danielle
EXPERT CLASS
Another cracking line up with dare I say a few old boys that refuse to join
the Vet Classes and looking by the results I feel they should be aiming for
the Champs not the Vets, The Kirbinator made the start and fuelled with his
usual gusto and aggression I knew he was going too hard to beat and it did
take a few laps for the Dark destroyer Harvey Dark to stalk him down and
pounce to take the lead, back in third was Steve “Rock star” Harding
whom was visibly getting quicker as the event wore on and was without doubt
catching the top two managed to get past The Kirbinator in the closing
stages to snatch runners up spot with The Kirbinator 3rd , another late
charger was the very red faced Gary McCoy who gave it his all and I feel
will be happy with 4th and even happier beating Jack Twentyman 5th, 6th Dave
Coles, 7th Steve Bird but still on equal laps as winners but in a great
amount of effort and considering the company will be a happy bird, 8th Josh
Kirby whom I would have expected top 3 along with Dad The Kirbinator but due
to Josh parading around the paddock area earlier on wearing just his boxer
shorts and once the CORE boys saw his white virgin flesh it was then just a
case of when we heard him squealing like a pig and once CORE boys had done
with him his concentration was not the same which curtailed his progress
today, 9th Alan Stringer, 10th Jer Box who most definitely looked happier in
the latter stages going by his body language, 11th Karl Langford who was
quite the opposite and looked happier when conditions were more testing ,
12th Jack Nixey with 11 laps completed, 13th which happened to be my lucky
number and also finishing position of Chris “Stangerous” Stanger who
very much lived up to his name by so nearly taking me out over the Brash
section on the high ground but great to see Chris getting his Mojo and
enthusiasm back, 14th Jack Liddiard whom seemed very unconcerned early on
when conditions were harder and looked like he may have been an ex trials
rider ?, 15th Toni Burroughs, 16th Dan Lawry whom I thought would have
revelled in a proper forest event but seemed to lack that whizz bang wallop,
17TH Paddy Twentyman, 18th CORE’s Mike Harlow whom felt at home in the
deep forest reminiscence of his “Deliverance” childhood but maybe should
have concentrated more on the racing instead of the flesh of Josh Kirby,
never less kept me well entertained and on my toes with his Waaahoooooos,
Andy Scudamore 19th , 20th Mark lewis, 21st Slim Tyrone from CORE who
thoroughly enjoyed the event but was a bit lack lustre after his Josh Kirby
Split roast and is currently struggling coming to terms with being beaten by
Mike Harlow, 22nd Steve Rogers, 23rd Tristan Robinson whom I know was
running a lot further up the field but with about 30 minutes to go his bike
was making some serious groaning noises which obviously affected his
position, 24th Matt guppy, CORE’s Matt Ward DNF due to cleaning up after
Slim and Mike Harlows antics, Niles Reid, Paul Tosell, Robert Taylor, Wayne
Player, David Guley, Aaron Dibnah all posted DNF’s.
VETERAN CLASS
What a cracking result for Al ranger on the Enduro tyres KTM who not only
took the win but also class best lap and 11 laps bagged, runner up on a
borrowed bike that has been so high on the podium (Sorry Stu) was James “Jimbo”
Browning, 3rd Steve Taylor with a very solid sterling ride and was
consistent throughout lap after lap, 4th Tom Moore who should have been top
2 and must try harder, 5th Rob Smith who seemed happier when the going was a
bit tougher in the earlier laps but will be happy getting a faster lap than
Paul O’Connell, 6th Jim Hawkins on new machinery which looks the dogs do
dah’s, 7th Adam Burt whom very much liked the fast fire roads and not
afraid to open up the beast, 8th Manny Bernardez whom I am sure will be
happy with result especially a hard event for the vertically challenged
riders especially on high mx bikes, 9th The man in the cupboard Matt Hubbard
whose wife went to the cupboard and the cupboard was bare….. not surprised
as Matt has spent all your money on a very new flash special edition KTM,
good result Matt considering you’re running it in etc but can Mrs Hubbard
have some money to buy some food to feed the kids… pretty please , 10th
Andrew Smith with 10 laps completed, Ade Francis 11th, 12th Colin paddy,
13th Martin Turner who will be releasing his 3rd book in the series “ Best
race result excuses” 14th Mark Yerbury, 15th Chris Welch whom did not
appear to be at the races today and could be heard reciting French poetry
through the forest trails, 16th Steve Dagger who will be happy getting one
upmanship on Simon Discombe 26th, Paul Hambridge 17th, 18th Nick Littlecott,
19th Keith Workman whom very much enjoyed but will be suffering this week
after such a long layoff, 20th Steve Davey, 21st Ade Wilkins and good to see
back on the Sherco, 22nd Tim Horn, 23rd Nicholas Pottow, 24th Simon Dobinson,
25th Colin Wilkins, 28th Martin Lee, 29th Russ Jacobs and 30th Lance Macklin,
Timothy Tubb and Paul Gentle posted DNF’s however Al Turner brother of
author Martin Turner is still trying to work out what excuse he should use
relating to his very poor performance today.
CLUBMAN A CLASS
Since Peter King changed bike and riding gear I have found him difficult to
follow after years of Blue bike and Red gear but no mistaking him today with
his no nonsense type of riding that always entertains and very much deserved
the class victory with 11 laps completed, not far behind was runner up
Matthew Dark and 3rd placed Rich Sayer, 4th and already up the pointed end
of Clubman A was last year’s SEEC Clubman B runner up Brad Warton, 5th
Graham Reid, 6th Mark Woodfine, 7th Liam Bartlett whom I enjoy watching with
his very lively animated style, 8th Daniel Dicker who looked very happy and
confident all day long, 9th Jason Conner whom at times did look a bit out of
control but equally performed some great saves, 10th Paul O’Connell who
will still be in hiding and keeping low after letting Rob Smith get the
fastest lap ….. By 1 second…. Note to oneself Paul …… must do
better, 11th Rob Richards, 12th Kieran Roy whom looked better and faster
than his position dictates and as always great to see TM represented, 13th
Stephen “Shaggy” Mulliner who has been a stranger to Enduro these days
due to BSB commitments but never less great to see him back in the paddock,
14th Will Burrough who took a while to find his mojo but once settled rode
well and made up a few places in the closing stages, 15th Mark Rayers with
10 laps completed, 16th Lee Boulden who did not seem happy out there today
and body language was not reading good, 17th Richard Swaffield with a solid
performance, 18th Craig “Ozzy” Osment who looked happy and seemed to be
enjoying himself and completed 9 laps, also on 9 laps was Adrian Cligg 19th,
20th Jim Archer whom spent an awful lot of time separated from his bike but
still managed to smile and enjoy his day, 21st Jake Meaker whom I had a lot
higher earlier on and not sure why his position so low with only 8 laps
posted. Nathan Baggott and Scott King posted DNF’s
CLUBMAN B CLASS
3 riders very much equally talented running up the front all day and all
completed 11 laps but top spot went to Chris Warne, James Beresford runner
up and William Hale 3rd but a great battle between them, 4th Scott Connor
who was on a very dated heavy heavy bike and result is a testament on his
ability fitness and strength, 5th Jonathan Bird who really looked happy and
very competent and will be very much a contender in the SEEC series this
year, 6th Ady Matthews who for one minute looks on fire and then the next
his shoulders drop and pace subdues a bit and for a man with his ability and
experience he should be running up the pointed end so come on Ady, 7th Lee
Blackburn who had a great solid ride and has the one-upmanship on Paul
Chalwin who failed to finish today with a sick bike, 8th Mark Bartlett, 9th
Ashley Staddon with 10 laps completed, 10th Simon Chilcott, 11th Carl
Boraman from the Normandy club who took a while to find his groove but once
found he looked happier and far more confident looking, 12th Kerry Alford
who had a long trip from Cornwall and going on body language it was worth it
as looked like he was having fun, 13th Adam Pearson, 14th Matt Noad who
unlike his good friend Jack looked more apprehensive for the first few laps
but once settled he looked a lot livelier, 15th Tom Leworthy who performed
solid throughout the day,18th Andy Harper, Rob Mussell and Tim Lunn do I
really need to say anything and I feel as embarrassed as your club Normandy
must be feeling right now and please do not use the Trials tyre excuse,
maybe time for a return to Sportsman class ;-) Matthew Cahill posted a DNF.
SPORTSMAN CLASS
Great class win for Fin Davey but had to work very hard to keep runner up
Harry Burt at bay but consolation for Harry is he posted fastest lap of
class also on same pace and same amount of laps was Zac King in 3rd, 4th
Andy gale who is usually on bigger machinery seemed happy enough out there,
5th and another good result for Dave Legge, 6th went to Hannah Clarke who
won the battle of the ladies but only just from Emily Hall 7th both posted 9
laps completed and equally similar lap times, well done girls, 8th Len
Jones, 9th Nick Gifford, 10th Richard Strawbridge, 11th Richard Grover, 12th
Josh Noon whom I had a lot higher so unsure why finishing position so low,
13th tom Protheroe, 14th Pete Nash who was having a great day until he went
off line and tried to see if a KTM could mimic a submarine, 15th Kevin
Hines, 16th Richard Heath, 17th David Wright who seemed to enjoy his day in
the woods, 18th Richard Jones who completed 7 laps, 19th Rob Cook with 6
completed laps, 20th Jason Flann and 21st Bob Presslee, Joel Protheroe,
Andrew Eddolls and Justin Bough posted
DNF’s.
What a cracking event, shame we have to wait 12 months for the next one.
Massive thank you to Craig, Neil, Mark and the rest of the DPMCC crew for
not only putting on a great event with great organisation but for the effort
you all put in prior to the event to make it this good, and of course Thank
you Shane Babey and Portsmouth MCRC for the timing and getting results out
so quick.
