WOR Events staged the last round of their WULFSPORT WINTER HARE SCRAMBLES series last Sunday at Llandrillo Forest. The series has had 5 rounds starting from early October last year and has been very well received in it's 2nd year of running. Catering for both Quads and Solo's in separate races, the series really has had a bit of everything for everyone.

QUAD RACE

Starting the Race Day proceedings at the last round was the Quad race with a 2hour duration kicking off at 9:30 am Sharp. The course was a 20 minute lap of around 6.7 miles that had the 4 wheelers stretching their throttle cables in places and also had them at 2 mph in others, Top Quad rider on the day was 4 x 4 mounted Simon Lang. Simon pushed the leading Expert Rider, Chris Nelson, (again making the long trip over from Northern Ireland to make sure of his championship title), all the way and after a few laps managed to pass the 2wd quad of Nelson and push ahead into the lead and take the overall win.

Nelson won his class and finished 17 seconds down on Lang come the end of the race. Lang topped the 4 x4 class by 10 minutes over runner up, Stephen Williams, however Williams, the likeable farmer from Welshpool, had done enough to take the 4 x4 class and championship overall for the series and looked a happy man when taking the chequered flag.

Third place in the 4x4 on the day went to Richard Coleby, A man on a mission in this sport now, as he matched Williams and Lang's 7 laps albeit a further 7 minutes down on Williams.

Endaf Owen did his first WOR Quad race of the series and topped the small but competitive Clubman Class with a very neat and Quick ride to push Ben Dean into the runners up spot with Lee Baxter in 3rd spot.

Billy Benbow was looking really fast until a few mechanical problems cost him a probable podium slot in the 4 x4 class so a special mention to him too.

The Wulfsport winter Quad series has run with a great atmosphere on great tracks and with the start of the Polaris National Hare Scrambles coming in late March 2015, it's exciting times ahead in the Quad world at WOR Events.

SOLO RACE

The solo race kicked off at 12 noon on the dot and with double points at stake there were still allot of class championships to be sorted out. The track team made some subtle changes from the quad race and Race Boss, Steve Ireland dropped the flag as the riders charged to the first corner off the fire road. The two CF Racing Husqvarna's of Alex West and Gethin Humphreys were the first bikes back to the lap scoring area with nothing in it at all, However by the end of lap 2 Humphreys had put in a huge spurt of pace to pull away and control the race, eventually finishing over 4 minutes clear of Runner Up West. West though had done enough to secure the overall win and become the Winter Champion with consistent results going his way. Sherco mounted Jon Hunt was flying throughout the race and held the second spot ahead of West for a fair amount of the race, then going out onto the last lap and literally bashing bars with West, Hunt had a front sprocket pick up a stone and take the teeth off it, leaving him to helplessly crawl back to the pits and suffer a underserved DNF.

Sam Winterburn on his Triple D KTM was going great guns and topped off his race with a 3rd place after some very neat riding in the more technical woodlands.

George Price was 4th and those valuable points gave him the runners up spot in the series.

Paul Engerlen won the Clubman class and in doing so did enough to take the series win too, Paul had a great ride to top the class from Runner up, Raife McDonald by just 3 seconds after over 2 hours of racing. This was one of McDonalds' best rides to date so far as he settles into his new 300 2t Husky. Third spot went to Vince Mullen a further minute down on Raife. A special mention must go to the top lady rider and a very strong 4th in the Clubman class, Glesni Jones. Jines was running top 3 to 4 all race and was certainly on a mission and showed a clean pair of heels to many a fellow rider on her little 125 2t.

Julian Rylance showed the rest the way home in the Over 40 class a he led from start to finish and eventually topped the class by over 8 minutes from Runner up Anthony Crowe with Martin Wells in a secure third spot that secured him the class overall win for the series.
Rylance did enough to get a 7th Overall on the day as his long legs helped in the tighter sections.

Gareth Lloyd rode steady and did enough to top the Over 50 group and to take the Winter Over 50's championship. Lloyd was on a 250f Husky and was cruising around to push Richard Lewis into 2nd spot and Laurence Barber (old friend of WOR from way back!) into 3rd place.

The top Sportsman rider was Roy Broomfield with a very smooth ride to take the class spoils from Matthew Mills with Eddie Meek in a comfortable 3rd spot.

John Jones topped the Sportsman Vets after a series long battle with Andrew Mills and did enough to edge Mills into the runner up spot in championship too. 3rd place on the day went to Martin Bennett.

Sion Jones rode like his determined sister Glesni and put in another brilliant ride to top the Youth class on his little KTM 85, Jones finished 3 minutes ahead of Runner up, Declan Richards with Ryan Holland going very well to take 3rd spot.

Novice group winner was Matt Clark with Warren Roby and Craig Taylor in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Summing up is easy, this race, along with the other 4 races in the Wulfsport Winter Hare Scrambles have been a huge success with great organisation, great tracks, great atmosphere and a great way to see the Winter months through with quality, always ride able and achievable challenges in the winter races that stand WOR Events out a seasoned, professional promoters that they are.

Well done to all involved from staff through to the most important bit, the riders.
