BLAZUSIAK MAKES IT COUNT IN MEXICO
Grand Prix of Mexico - Guadalajara
The second half of the Maxxis FIM SuperEnduro World Championship headed to
the Arena VFG in Guadalajara Mexico for round four on Saturday February 21st
2015. The course featured a big jump and a bigger boulder garden.
The day started with the Nationals Group A and B Free Practice. Denmark's
Peter Weiss (KTM) was very quick with a time of one minute and six seconds.
In the Junior class Free Practice USA's Ty Tremaine (KTM) put in the
fastest lap ahead of Sweden's Andreas Linusson (KTM). They both posted 5
laps. Wale's Gethin Humphreys (Husqvarna) was 3rd.
Taddy Blazusiak (KTM) set the quickest time in the Prestige Free Practice
session. Jonny Walker (KTM) was 2nd and Alfredo Gomez (Husqvarna) was 3rd.
Cody Webb was 4th and David Knight was 5th.
In the Nationals Group A Timed Practice Ignacio Gil (KTM) was fastest
ahead of Abraham Vega (KTM). In Group B Garcia Jesus Zavala (KTM) was 1st
and Peter Weiss was 2nd. The Nationals went straight back out again. The top
five were Garcia Jesus Zavala, Ignacio Gil, Peter Weiss, Abraham Vega and
Fernando Perea.
The Juniors Timed session was a repeat of the Free Practice with Ty
Tremaine 1st, Andreas Linusson 2nd and Gethin Humphreys 3rd.
Cody Webb posted a fast time in the 2nd Free Practice session ahead of
Taddy Blazusiak and Paul Bolton but Taddy reeled Webb in to take the
win. After a break the main races began
Getting his night off to a strong start, Blazusiak laid down the fastest
time in the SuperPole to finally bag his first one of the season. Hot out of
the traps for race one, Blazusiak set about making a charge for the front of
the pack. Keeping everything in check, the Pole claimed the first win of the
night. Chasing him hard, KTM’s Jonny Walker took second with Cody Webb
completing the top three. David Knight was 4th and Paul Bolton was 5th.
In the reversed starting grid for race two it was Husqvarna’s Danny
McCanney who grabbed the holeshot but in the rock section David Knight
powered his way to the front. Despite holding the lead for two laps, Knight
lost out to Blazusiak and slipped back. Under pressure, Blazusiak faced an
attack from Webb. Moving into the lead on lap four, Webb broke clear from
the pack and hung on to take the win. Walker also found away past Blazusiak
in the closing stages of the race and took second with the Pole crossing the
finish line in third.
With the overall win still up for grabs, both Blazusiak and Webb came out
swinging in the third and final race. Pushing the pace out front, the duo
swapped and changed position continuously throughout the race. On the final
lap, Webb fought his way into the lead only to lose out to Blazusiak in the
final corner. Taking the win, Blazusiak claimed the overall. Second in race
three saw Webb place as runner-up while Walker – despite finishing fourth
in race three behind Alfredo Gomez secured the bottom step of the podium
with third.With a 5th, a7th and a 6th Paul Bolton continues to improve.
Afterwards
Taddy Blazusiak said “It’s awesome to have made it four wins in a row.
“After such a close battle last time out in Finland I knew it would be
tough again here. But somehow things just rolled in my favour. I felt good
on the track and my starts where great. I had some fun battles –
especially in the final race with Cody – so it’s been a great result to
win here.”
In the Junior class the night belonged to Ty Tremaine. On form in Mexico
and favouring the highly technical nature of the track, the young American
comfortably won all three races in Mexico. Making the long haul flight to
Guadalajara more than worthwhile, Gethin Humphrey's delivered an impressive
performance to finish as runner-up. Suffering more than his fair share of
mistakes and crashes, Andreas Linusson wasn’t able to keep his win streak
from Finland alive and ended his night third overall.
