Welsh 2 Day Entries 2015 It will soon be that time of the year again when the thousand hopefuls get ready to enter online for 500 places at the Welsh 2 Day (Yes, It’s called the ‘3 Day Trial’ )– this is just to ensure we comply with the letter of the law – literally. Yes, it will involve 3 days, and it’s a time trial, but it will only be two days of competition…. We have decided to open the entries this year at 1100am, Monday 6th April. This is Easter Monday, so the complaints from some over the last two years (“too early/late”) will be avoided. Yes, there may be some working on the Bank Holiday, but we have picked this for a number of reasons – that’s the date… We say a big thank you to our entry service for the past few years, Fabian 4 – we are moving to the ACU’s system for the simple reason that without either an ACU competition licence or paying for a one event licence, you won’t get an entry... The licence issue causes us immense headaches every year, the ACU offer a bulk entry system, with the added bonus of no paper licences on Wednesday 24th June for our ‘signing on superstar team’. This means that to enter you will need a login code from the ACU. For many this is not a problem, as you will already have your licence sorted but you will need to know your login code and password before you can enter the event, check now that you can remember your password! For those relying on a one event licence you will need to ensure that you are registered on the ACU system and we recommend that you complete this process sooner rather than later. To register use the following link https://members.acu.org.uk/Secure/Login.aspx Non ACU riders (Overseas Riders including SACU & MCUI) will need to obtain a code to access the system from the ACU please contact Xenia Munroe email: licence@acu.org.uk to be issued with a code. Overseas riders including MCUI riders must have a start permission from their FMN failure to produce a written start permission will mean having to purchase repatriation insurance and at a cost of £80.00 plus a one event licence at £15.00 If any overseas riders have any queries please contact Sue Davies (Event
Secretary) Some Do’s and Don’ts for 2015 If you are unsuccessful in getting an entry – don’t be tempted to swop or buy someone else’s entry. Last year a number of riders were excluded as a result of doing this. In the past, horror stories of riders getting injured, and the bad news being communicated to the wrong next of kin have been dealt with quite severely by the ACU, with both parties banned for several years. The insurance cover is invalid if you do not sign the entry form at the time of entering – you have been warned. All riders will be required to produce photographic ID as part of signing on. One criticism on the Steward’s report last year was the lack of use (by some) of environmental mats. Some used them each and every time, some did not. The penalty for non-compliance is up to exclusion. You all have plenty of time to get sorted, the spec for the mats is on the ACU website. The clerk of the course has identified that fuelling will be in a number of distinct areas, reducing roadside refuelling - allowing better supervision resulting in safer refuelling. Remember your mat and fire extinguisher! The route will be quite different this year, and a lot of work will have gone into the planning and preparation. Please do not jeopardise the future of the event by riding illegally in forestry or on private land. An incident last year did threaten our access to one forest, we do not want a repeat of the problem. Having given you a rake of don’ts, we should point out that every year, the entry is oversubscribed, so we must be doing something right.. Do keep in touch on social media, web, twitter or any other means with what’s going on. We are planning on getting test times up onto the internet after each test has been completed, so those with smart phones or tablets (if you can get service!) will be able to keep up to date with the times. Do get sorted in plenty of time. We get around 5-10% of those successfully entered drop out. We will be reasonable but if you are injured, we will need a Dr’s note for you to have a refund. We will also have a reserve list, so if you are keen to ride, but missed out on the original list, get on the reserve list… For those who have marshalled in previous years, it can be a less stressful way of staying involved with the event. Our marshalling has changed over recent years, as complaints of hap-hazard marshalling meant we now work to sectors and areas. This makes for a safer experience for the riders, as marshals remain in an area until released by one of the assistant clerks of the course. We will be advertising for this a little nearer the date. Our check crews are the true stars of the event. Whatever the weather, they are out there to record check times and provide the usual signal to ‘clean your numbers’…. Sadly, some of our stalwarts are no longer with us, and we need to find the next generation of check marshals. For those who have done the job, it can be a great way to have an involvement with the whole entry (twice) – we need your names! Contact any of the following and we will pass your details on to the co-ordinator Huw: w2dmanagement@gmail.com Sue: welsh2dayenduro@gmail.com Helena: w2dcommsec@gmail.com |
