![]() ![]() Welsh 2 Day Enduro / Welsh 3 Day Trial Huw Watkins – Clerk of the Course Key Message
Months of planning and discussions with land owners have seen the route for the 2015 ‘Welsh’ finalised. A more compact route with less road miles has been the result. The ACU entry system has had its sternest test to date, and come through. The puzzled many were wondering why the event, advertised in the regulations and applications as the ‘Welsh 3 Day Trial’. The legislation allowing specific events to run outside standard conditions (max 180 riders) refers to this name rather than the ‘Welsh 2 Day Enduro’. Our contacts at the Motor Sport Association and Powys County Council fully accepted the matter was an administrative issue, and the use of the W3DT was entirely acceptable. Many thought that there was an extra day of riding ! (Not this time sorry!) So what are the changes this time? Many thanks to the Central Wales Auto Club – the Knighton club have welcomed the event back to the Radnor forest. This used to be a very stern test each year. The fact that the Knighton enduro follows ours in 6 weeks means we will be using trusted and solid ground. A return to open hill routes has meant the co-operation of over 30 land owners, so the message of ‘stay away until the day’ has to go out. This applies equally to the riders who store the route in GPS devices, returning with other riders post event. There is very little of the route that is a vehicular right of way, please remember this. Our team are now hard at work alerting residents, posting notices and ensuring that the very supportive communities know we are coming! The event web site and social media will be giving details of accommodation, camping and other facilities to make visitor’s stays simpler to organise. Once again, a high quality Championship class will ride each test twice, ensuring that the close competition seen last year will continue. A healthy sidecar entry and the classic enduro championship runners bring a touch of nostalgia to the competition. Now – what about the weather…….
