Yamaha Racing in confident spirits ahead of EWC GP of
Greece
Team Yamaha Miglio head to Serres in Greece this weekend for the event
that marks the halfway point in the 2015 FIM Enduro World Championship.
After a challenging outing at the GP of Portugal, Yamaha Racing's
Cristobal Guerrero has his sights set on returning to the Enduro 1 podium in
Serres. Delivering the team's first podium result at round two in Spain
where he claimed a deserved pair of third place finishes. Guerrero has his
sights firmly set on once again scoring top three results.
The determined Spaniard, who led the International Six Days Enduro staged
in Serres, Greece back in 2008 before retiring with injury - is focused on
putting his WR250F back in contention for a podium result. With conditions
expected to mirror those of his training grounds in the southern Spain,
Guerrero is a rider to watch in Greece.
Claiming his best result of the season to date at the recent GP of
Portugal, Team Yamaha Miglio Racing's Gianluca Martini continues to improve
in his debut season of world level competition. Claiming a seventh place
result in Enduro 1 on day one in Portugal, the young Italian is now
beginning to demonstrate his speed against some of the best enduro riders in
the world.
Working hard between rounds to improve his overall fitness required for
two physically demanding days of competition, Martini is confident about the
weekend ahead.
After his terrific start to the series in Chile and Spain, the GP of
Portugal was not so kind for Yamaha France's supported rider Marc Bourgeois.
Picking up a troublesome hand injury, the Frenchman battled hard to salvage
some much needed championship points. Slipping to fifth overall in the
championship standings, Bourgeois seeks to regain some of that ground lost
in Portugal.
The FIM Enduro World Championship continues with round four in Serres,
Greece on June 6/7.
Cristobal
Guerrero - Enduro 1
"I'm hoping for better things in Greece. After the highs of a double
podium in Spain it was unfortunate to have bad luck the following weekend in
Portugal, but sometimes this is the way racing goes. I know my speed is good
and I know that I can fight for the podium. Greece should be a difficult
race. I expect it to be hot, dry and dusty - much like the conditions near
my home that I train on. If so, I'm confident that I can get my results back
on track and reward the team's hard effort with another visit to the
podium."
Gianluca
Martini Gianluca Martini - Enduro 1
"I was pleased with how things went in Portugal. On day one I
achieved my best ever result in the EWC and it's given me a lot of
confidence for Serres this weekend. In this short break between races I've
worked hard to improve my fitness in order to be stronger for the second day
of racing in the EWC. I'm in good spirits and looking forward to another
good race."
Massimo Migliorati - Team Yamaha Miglio, Team Manager
"What happened to Cristobal in Portugal was very unfortunate but
this is part of racing and we accept that sometimes, no matter how hard you
prepare, things can go wrong. We've moved on from it in a positive way and
are determined to improve in everything we do. Like I said previously, we
are a young team in the EWC and constantly learning little things all of the
time. I believe this weekend should suit Cristobal - the conditions will be
similar to his home in Spain - and he's very motivated to get back onto the
podium once more."
