WOR EVENTS 6 Hour ENDUROTHON
BADEN HALL, JULY 2015

Report : Keith Williams.

Last Sundays 6hr Endurothon organised annually by WOR Events went down a treat as the fantastic Baden Hall venue in Staffordshire provided a brilliant 6.3 mile track that entertained all the riders from Ironman through to the 2 man teams.

A fantastic turn out of riders and spectators had the place bursting with atmosphere as the pits and rider change over area became the focal point for everyone enjoying the nice July weather as they supported their teams and riders.

9:30am sharp had the riders away ready to face the 6hrs ahead of them and all were looking to finish and see the Chequered flag at 3.30pm. Overnight rain had made the track very slippery for the first few laps but then the conditions can only be described as perfect. The course was taking riders anything from 30 minutes a lap to 14 for the super fast guys.

The Teams :

Alex West and George Price both mounted on 300 2t Husqvarna's were in great form and really showed their potential as they held a solid lead for the first 2.5hrs of the race. Really impressive when you think that the two Humphreys brothers, Gethin and Owain were on fire and trying to reel West and Price in. Once the Humphreys' did push to the front though they steadily plugged away and made a 7 minute gap adavntage come the end of 6hrs hard racing ahead of West and Price. Craig Reynolds and Lewis Belfield were the 3rd placed Open 2man team and fully deserved to be on the podium as the two former young WOR riders are now doing lots of MX and their speed showed on the tracks berms and Moto cross sections. The Humphreys and West and Price completed 26 laps with Belfield and Reynolds on 25 laps.

In the Veteran 2 man group it was Darren Skillin and Dean Johnson that topped the group on 23 laps with John Jones and Duncan Humphrey as the runners up on 22 laps. Also on 22 laps but 10 minutes adrift of Humphrey and Jones was third placed Kenny Belfield and Eddie Sloane. Great to see Kenny back at WOR with his lad Lewis and also former Beach race star, Eddie Sloane still getting out and having fun on a dirt bike.

2 man Sportsman glory went to the Dad and Lad team of Vardy and Vardy, Both called Mark and Marc, it was a great race they had for the duration of the 6 hours with the eventual Runners Up , Aiden Ferrell and Joe Townsend with just a minute separating the teams at the end and 23 laps each. Third spot going to the Bolsover Brothers with a great ride in their first Enduro to take the bronze silverware home on 22 laps.

Bolton and Allsop topped the novice 2 man on 21 laps with Runners up, Elliot and Murfet holding off Mayer and Gilbert in 3rd place . Well done to all the teams that took place and finished.

The Ironmen:

Harry Eccles was the Top runner out of the Ironmen Open class as he placed a lap clear at the top of the group and a fine 7th overall. Eccles having a few crashes and incidents along the way but fully deserving of his result on the 250cc 2t Husqvarna. Runner Up was Young Ted Bailey that rode very smooth and consistently to earn himself a very good result indeed. Third spot went to Glesni Jones whom once again showed commitment and dug deep on her 125 cc Husky to take a well deserved Bronze award. Bailey Completed 22 laps with Jones on 20.

One ride must go down as the ride of the day though, Young Chloe Richards went in the Ironman Sportsman group and instead of just trying to get a finish on her trusty old 85cc KTM, she went out and blitzed the class with a clean, one lap advantage over Runner Up Stephen Welch. It really was a gutsy performance from the young Wirral teenager as she battled most of the race with a very sore foot, Well done that girl. Third spot behind the smooth and consistent Welch(20 laps) was another youngster, Sion Jones riding brilliantly to complete 19 laps after 6 hours of solid riding.

Alex Owen was in superb form in the Ironman Veterans and he topped the class from Runner Up Gary Skelding and Neil Hackett in 3rd spot. All three riders going well for the duration with Hackett on 20 laps, Skelly on 21 and Owen on 23 laps.

In the Ironman Novice group it was a well taken victory for Danny Blairs on 20 laps with runner up , Wayne Larsen doing brilliantly on 19 laps as did third placed Chris Frost on 18 circuits of the track.

The 2 Hr Support Race.

Starting at 1.30pm and running for 2 hrs was a small group of riders that took part in the 2 hr support race. The top man in this group was Reece Langhall with Danny Clarke a very strong second place and both riders completing 9 laps. The Flying Locksmith, Barry Boustead was in third spot on 8 laps.

Summing this one up is easy, The event was ran like clockwork, No serious problems or injuries, super smooth behind the scene's as expected from the WOR team with a fantastically designed track, plenty of safe and professional marshal cover and a slick lap scoring system that had the presentation sorted immediately after the last rider had crossed the finish line. It was nice to see so many people at the awards presentation to cheer on their riders. WOR wish to thank all involved with the running of the event and as always especially the riders that make these events happen.
