Charlie Frost wins Abbotside
9th August - Cromhall

Kingswood MCC hosted their very popular Abbotside Enduro last weekend. With an entry limit of 120 riders the event soon fills up.

The Abbotside farm venue between Bristol and Gloucester is splendid. From the ample start area the course descends to the passing M5 and the view stretches away to the Severn Estuary and the mountains of Wales beyond.

The 5 mile course chases along the hedgerows and darts in and out of the copses. To keep the riders and their support crews entertained the team included a scrap car and a rockery at the start. Matt Ridgway has won the Abbotside Enduro 8 out of the last 10 years but with Matt concentrating on MX the field was wide open. The weather was warm and the clouds were light.

The two and a half hour race began at 11.00am. Brendan Griffiths took the holeshot but W-Mounter sponsored Charlie Frost soon took the lead and despite a crash on last lap he held on to it. Derek Bawn was runner up and Roger Holland was 3rd. Tony Griffiths 4th, Jordan Ridgway 5th, Freddie Adams 6th, Harvey Dark 7th, Nathan Newman 8th and David Wathen 9th. The top 9 all completed 16 laps.

Jack Twentyman can still mix it with the Experts as he clocked up 16 laps in the Over 40 class ahead of Gary Baker and Jeremy Box.

Ryan Cox was the best Clubman with 15 laps. James Purchase was runner up and James Faulkner was 3rd.

The 39 strong Over 40 Clubman Veterans were headed by Mark Dudley. Peter King was 2nd and Geoff Brigden was 3rd. Patrick Belcher seized his KTM on the Log Jump - 100 yards from the start but he would probably have swapped placed with Jordan Kittow whose Yamaha expired after 7 laps. David Price looked to be enjoying the parts of the course he rode.

Mathew Collins won the Sportsman class. Jordan Brigden was runner up and Lewis Robinson 3rd.

The Trail and trial class was small and close. After 2 and half hours of racing only 10 seconds separated winner Lewis Burman from runner up John Stagg.

A cracking day out. Well done to the Kingswood Team.
