Camphill Plantation situated at the heart of Bedale, North Yorkshire played host to round 5 of the NEXC Championship.

The North Riding Enduro Club had been hard at work several days running up to the event, preparing the course and adding new sections to give riders a real buzz. A brilliant fast and following course with a mix of different challenges had been designed and marked out by the team. A relatively long lap of around 4 miles zig-zagged through different woodlands from soft, loomy burms to hard packed flowing trails and of course it included the famous "bomb hole" to keep riders and spectators entertained.

Camphill is renowned for slimy terrain however, for the first time in several years the summer weather had been on our side, providing glorious sunshine all weekend allowing dust to kick up on the course, in comparison to last years event.

The Youth and Juniors were flagged away at 9 am sharp for 1hr 15 mins on a slightly shortened lap. First round was Kile Laidler and Max Lofthouse closely followed by Charlie Coates. All three boys battled throughout the day but it was Max and Kile that came in to lap scoring neck and neck on the final lap, there was no guessing who was going to get in there first. It was Max who topped the youth boys class on 6 laps very closely followed by Kile only 1 second apart!! Charlie Coates grabbed third place.

All junior riders showed us they have got what it takes to compete in hare and hounds with James Rial taking a well deserved win closely followed by Sam Boyd and Harry Mugridge in third. Well done boys.

A well attended adults event saw riders raring to go and flagged away at 11.30am. In the fierce Expert class, Lee Sampson got off to a flying start taking the holeshot with the rest of the pack hunting him down. There is simply no way to predict the top three in this class, as Sampson was flying gaining a lead on the rest of the pack until mechanical problems caused him to retire, William Hoare was looking to be a contender for a podium finish until mechanical problems also caused him to retired and Adam Smith was on a charge picking riders off one by one until he was forced to retire due to front brake problems. It was NREC Team rider Sam Ludgate that managed to grab the overall win after battling with Nathan Ball for the majority of the race. The pair kept swapping places until a small crash from Nathan allowed Ludgate to pull a slight lead and take the win less than a minute ahead of Nathan Ball. NREC Team rider Declan Helliwell finished 3rd Expert.

The conditions, although very dry were tiring and unforgiving for every rider, with breaking bumps, tree roots and rocks appearing every lap.

The Over 40's class saw a three way battle between Ross Hall, Anthony Tempest and John Bradford throughout the 2.5 hour duration. The Over 40's glory went to John Bradford with a well deserved win after a brilliant and enjoyable ride at the British Championship in Knighton last week, Bradford used the techniques from fast special tests and treated Camphill as a 2 and half hour special test to take the win ahead of NREC Team rider Ross Hall. Anthony Tempest rounded off the top three only 45 seconds behind.

Robbie Wallace is a rider on a mission at this present time. Fresh from a convincing ride at the British Championship last week, the 18 year old was again in top form as he blasted his Husky 125 to the Clubman E1 class win ahead of Steve Jemison in second and Ben Clemit in third.

Clubman E2 saw the ever improving Luke Knight take a credible win just over 1 minute ahead on Danny Culkin who had a few spectacular crashes in the bomb hole. Connor Scott has been working hard all year to try and gain a podium position and today was his day, he kept it smooth and took home 3rd place.

A small but competitive Clubman E3 class saw Stuart Austin and James Davy battle throughout the whole race. Austin eventually got the upperhand and took the class win only 4 seconds ahead of Davy both on 10 laps. Eddie Meek just back from travelling around Australia on his bike grabbed 3rd place in his first race since March.

Dominic Richardson topped the sportsman E1 class with his best ride of this season, he took a well deserved victory with his first ever win after showing vastly improving skills over the past few months. David Bailey and Martin Hodgson were fighting for the runner up spot but it was Bailey who nipped in first taking second place 20 seconds ahead of Hodgson. A special mention goes to Ben Linley who was doing extremely well until he ran out of fuel on his last lap and had to wait for the course closing marshals to give him some fuel, credit for finishing!

The Sportsman E2 class saw Mark Williams gain a significant lead and take top step victory on 10 laps 6 minutes ahead of Ben Mitchell in second, closely followed by the always consistent Darren Almack.

After a very close battle in the Sportsman E3 class, Mark Cockfield took a credible win only 33 seconds ahead of Alistar Jopling in second and Ben Linklater in third all on 9 laps.

Once again in the Over 50's class it was top gun Andrew Maben who was the man to beat taking the overall victory with a credible 9 minutes ahead of John Lofthouse. Finishing in third place is the committed Rick Rial on 9 laps.

It was a close battle in the Novice class which was topped by Paul Hedison closely followed by Chris Howes and Alex Newsome grabbed third.

Results Adult Race - Youth Race
