The International Dirt Bike Show at Stoneleigh Park, near Warwickshire once again lit the dull Autumn days with an cornucopia of bright shiny things and their promise of sunny days to come. All 5 halls are packed with a dazzling array of exhibition stands displaying the latest 2016 machinery and kit. Beta, Honda, Husqvarna, Kawasaki, KTM, Sherco, Suzuki and Yamaha are all represented. There were also new exhibitors like the re-launched SWM and Frantics. Edmondson Racing introduced the innovative Bultaco Brinco electric MTB and one of the first test pilot in the demonstration area was Derrick Edmondson's old BEC rival Geriant Jones.
Graham Jarvis' 300 is on display on the Husqvarna stand. It is a rare opportunity to see Graham's bike not balanced on one wheel. On the ACU stand Dusty Martin announced the 2016 British Enduro Championship dates. The 6 rounds are provisionally 5/6th March Dirt Bike Action Helmsley, 28/29th May RAW Enduro TBC, 6/7th August Southern MCC Isle of Man, 27/28th August Rhayader, 17/18th September Natterjack and 20th November Diss MC Muntjac. Wayne Braybrook said he excited at the prospect of Raw Enduro hosting their first BEC but he was a bit concerned that the date may clash with another event and it may change. The current BEC leader Steve Holcombe was pleased to confirm that he has signed a 2 year contract to ride for Beta in the EWC and BEC Championships. John Lampkin of Beta UK said that Steve was a highly professional young man and a credit to the company. There was more good news on the Colwyn Bay KTM stand where Ian Smart confirmed that Brad Freeman's ligament injury was healing well and Colwyn Bay would be supporting Brad next year in the British and World Championships. There was a buzz on the Sherco stand with the news that MRS would be backing a prominent BEC rider alongside Mark Roberts in 2016. For contractual reasons we cannot reveal the rider's name but they don't come much bigger. There is therapy available for the moose phobics on the Endurotyres, com stand where Al Ranger is demonstrating the Rabaconda moose changer and if the prospect of months of endless grey days is too much for you to bear then have a chat with Mark Jackson - on the Eurotek stand - about trail riding in Spain with Offroad Orange. It is wonderful. Doors open at 9.30am. Adult admission is £16, over 60s and those aged 11 to 15 are £10 and children aged 10 and under go free. There is plenty of free parking, and the souvenir show guide is free too For the latest images and timetable visit www.dirtbikeshow.co.uk |
