British Championship Round-Up

What a season, from Elgin in Scotland to Bordon in Southern England, highs and lows.
With the final round of the British Championship ran over the weekend, Tom Sagar Racing look back on the season in the BEC.

That’s the final round over Tom, what are your thoughts on the BEC this year?

“I knew that this year was going to be tough, there are a number of brilliant riders now contending in the BEC and at EWC, I knew that the season was going to be hard and unlikely that would be able to retain my number one plate, I set myself a realistic goal of top five and went for it. I’ve finished 3rd on points but taking two scores from that I end up with 4th, so I guess it’s number 4 plate for next year”.

What’s been the highlight for you this year in the BEC?

“The highlight has to be my win at the second round in Helmsley, the battle between all of the top runners was so close, I really didn’t expect to walk away with a win”.

And the low’s?

“The rounds this year just haven’t suited my riding style, that’s my challenge for the winter to improve my grass test riding. Next year’s calendar looks exciting though new locations, so that will be a challenge in itself. After the International Six Days in September I’ve been struggling with tendonitis so I haven’t been able to train as normal so that’s been on my mind unfortunately rest is the only cure”.

So you’ve committed to the BEC for next year?

“Yes I’ll be competing in the BEC series next year and also the sprints return to the calendar so I will be competing in those too”.

“I would also like to take this opportunity to say “Thank you” to all of my sponsors, without your help and support I wouldn’t be able to race at the level I’m at, it’s disappointing that I wasn’t able to retain my title in the UK but I have gained the European Title, I guess you can’t have everything.”
