ACU EASTERN 2016 ENDURO CHAMPIONSHIP There were more surprises and disappointments at the second round of the G H Motorcycles / Husqvarna / ACU Enduro Championship at Iken in the wilds of Suffolk. The organisers Woodbridge Motor Cycle Club did not let the setbacks they had with loss of some of the land, heavy overnight rain and a bitterly cold win stopping them putting on a good event with a 6 mile lap. Aston Bird (Woodbridge) set the best times in the three Special Tests with a 10 second advantage over Jamie Roper (Sudbury) and 19 seconds over Chris Hockey and looked set to take the win in the Championship Class but it was not to be because near the end of the day he got a puncture and had to retire. This led to the battle between Roper and Hockey and this went to the last lap where Roper dropped his machine twice trying to overtake Hockey and has Hockey come in first with 15 seconds to spare before penalty points it looked like he had won the round as the clock ticked over to the next minute when Roper handed over his time card and with 60 penalty points incurred would finish 4th however he had passed the yellow flags which marks the finish line with 3 seconds to spare and took the win. Halstead riders Jason Morland and Brendon Mayers finished 3rd and 4th while Sudbury riders Craig Roper and Steve Mason were 5th and 6th. Provisionally Roper leads the Class on 35 Points Hockey 2nd 25 points and Morland 3rd 22 points.
The first three in the Clubman Class were Kevin Palmer (Norwich), Ben Ramus (Sudbury) and Alex Walton (Sudbury). Ramus now leads the Class with Dan Willis (Stowmarket) 2nd and Walton and Palmer are joint third. Peter Andrews (Woodbridge) took the win in the Clubman Veteran Class over Jeff Turner (Sudbury) who would had won but took the long way to the finish line and had 60 penalty points added to his score for lateness. Kevin Gore (Norwich) took 3rd place and jointly leads the Class on 28 points with Andrews and Turner. It was a surprise win in the Clubman Super Veteran Class for Graham Mays (Sudbury) who a few days earlier celebrated his 55th birthday. This relegated Andy Mason to second place and Les Rampton third place (both Sudbury). Mays now lead this Class on 35 points from Mason 34 points and Rampton 28 points. |
