WOR EVENTS WILDCARD HARE SCRAMBLES "The fantastic setting of Llyn Ynn Hall near Ruthin was the home for the WOR Events Wildcard Hare Scramble last weekend and amongst stunning sunshine, the park gardens and a brilliant mix of grass special test type going and a very technical and demanding woodland, The event turned out to be one of the best yet this year for both Quads and Solo riders. The meeting was a special event that riders can use as a booster result for their respective championships and this race allotted points for the Quad UK Enduro series and the Clubs Solo Putoline and Michelin championships combined. As well as being a stand alone, open event, the two race format went down a treat with the quads out first for 2 hours at 9:30am. QUADS WILDCARD HARE SCRAMBLE
Steve Atkins is a machine and can ride any quad, anywhere and go well, he was battling with another 4x4 Quad legend, Martin Benbow as they battled it out in the 4x4 Expert class. Both riders completed 17 laps with a 2 minute advantage going to Can Am mounted Atkins. Benbow deserves a special mention for once again taking a standard 4x4 Suzuki farm quad to within an inch of its life as he literally threw it around on 2 and 3 wheels for the race duration, a testament to rider and machine. In the 2wd Clubman group a very determined and fast youngster called Luke Billington was in top form as he completed 16 circuits with a 4 minute advantage over 2nd Placed Ben Dean who also did 16 laps to his credit. Taking 3rd spot on the podium in class was Joe Bacon on 15 laps with well earned trophy. 4x4 Clubman victory went to the jovial and pleasant Neil Martin. Number 371, Martin on his Yamaha reaped the rewards of a consistent ride as he plugged away to victory with a 16 lap and 5 minute advantage over Runner Up and always smooth and consistent, Laura Linton on her Can Am again on 16 laps. The final podium place going to Gary Bailey with 16 laps to his credit. A mention must go out to Graham Guy whom was miles ahead in the group for most of the race until broken steering took him out with 2 laps to go. At the end of the quad race a very nice trophy presentation then took place for the quad riders and the WOR Team did some track repairs to get ready for the 12:30pm start for the solo riders. SOLOS WILDCARD HARE SCRAMBLE Once again it was that man Chris Wagstaff that topped the Expert Vets, Waggy (yam) led home Runner Up, Paul Mcsorely (yam) by a clear lap with Neil Parry a further lap down in 3rd place with all riders deserving their awards after battling the demanding enduro conditions and high tempo of the race. Darren Skillin got right on top of Waggys back wheel with an hour and 15 minutes gone and that would have made for a superb last 45 minutes battle between the two but disaster struck for Skillin as his MX 2504t went pop as he went through the lap scoring area, very hard luck for the likeable Skillin. The Clubman class had another superb battle going on too with Harry Houghton and Ryan Shacklady never too far apart. Both ex trials riders and now riding with great speed, It was Houghton that was the man to catch for most of the race. However with Shacklady not needing a fuel stop on his 4t KTM and Houghton on the KTM 2t needing a splash of go juice it would come down to that and a 2nd to last lap mistake by Houghton that would let Shacklady through for the class win by just 23 seconds come the end of the race with both riders on 18 laps each. Finishing in 3rd spot and completing 17 laps was Aled Harrison with a very determined ride on his brand new 350 Husqvarna. John Jones bossed the Clubman Vets on his Husky 350f with a nearly 1 lap advantage over Runner Up Stacey Greensall. Greensall was the faster man on the grass fields but it was the pace of Jones in the woods that earned him the victory on 17 laps. 3rd spot went to Mark Barrow with a great ride and some valuable championship points. The track was 3 miles a lap and although it felt longer than that it was the track length and fast and flowing conditions that made for some spectacular and close as ever racing in all the classes. No more so than in the always hotly contested Over 50's class. Colin Jones led the group from the kick off and was chased down by Stephen Parry as the two were never far apart for a good hour or so. However lurking back in 3rd place and slowly but surely gaining ground on the front two was the current class Boss, Colin Griffiths. The big man on his KTM 300 chased both Parry (KTM) and Jones (Yam) down and took the lead pushing on to take a 2 second advantage over Jones as the two riders were neck and neck heading for the chequered flag. Parry eventually finishing in 3rd spot. All riders fully deserving their podium results. Top Sportsman on 17 Laps was Rob Myatt and this win has been coming for a while as he keeps improving race after race. Runner Up spot went to another improving rider, Leon Dean as he completed 16 laps and finished ahead of third placed Matt Verrin by 37 Seconds. Verrin managed to get on the podium with a last lap pass on Sam Myatt to stop the brothers being on the same podium. Great racing throughout. Bryn Price topped the Sportsman Vets class from Henry Markey with 15 and 14 laps respectively.
Young Archie Collier on his 85cc Freestyle Husqvarna was the one to beat in the Youth class as he completed a 1 minute and 8 second advantage over Rob Francom in second place. Sion Hughes finished in 3rd spot making it a full Husky Podium with all 3 riders on 16 laps each. Collier also scooped the "Rider of the day " award from Race Boss Steve Ireland as he put his little wheels in the top 26 overall with a very plucky ride indeed.
And so another brilliant event and brilliant venue was done and dusted for the WOR team with over 340 riders enjoying the fantastic weekends off road Hare Scrambles action. As always WOR send out a massive thanks to all Helpers, staff, medics, Land owners, Caterers and most importantly the riders for supporting the events. WOR's next event now is the final visit of the year to the massively
popular Baden Hall in Staffordshire in 2 weeks time on 16/17th for another
double header of Quads / Putoline and Michelin action. More details at http://www.worevents.com
