Lee "Stretch" Green wins the 2016 Hafren
Rally
Sunday 6th November 2016
A full entry of riders at this years Hafren rally had to brave some wintery
conditions for this years event that was held on Sunday 6th November. An
overnight frost greeted riders at Sweet Lamb first thing which made for some
icy conditions first thing. Throughout the day riders had to contend with
rain, sleet and snow! Luckily conditions improved throughout the day, with
drier and brighter conditions.
Riders had to complete 2 and half laps of the 45 mile course which consisted
of a mixture of open hill, fast flowing fire roads and singletrack. There
were 3 special stages per lap, with the first lap untimed to give riders a
sighting lap, which gave riders a total of 5 timed special stages.
Lee Green aboard his KTM 450 totally dominated the event winning all 5
special stages to eventually beat runner up Sherco mounted Chris Foster by
46 seconds, with the final spot on the podium going to Colin Jenkins. Winner
of the Trail class was Lee Salt aboard his KTM 950 Adventure who finished a
very impressive 17th overall, with Darren Soothill runner up on a CCM GP
450. Top lady rider was former European Ladies Enduro Champion and Dakar
finisher Patsy Quick. Winner of the Beginners class was Stephen Reynalds.
The Hafren rally proved once again why it is one of the riders favourite
UK rallies, with great course, friendly atmosphere and great racing.
