WOR EVENTS WINTER QUAD ENDURO SERIES 2016/17
Rd 1 - BALA WOODS
Sunday 4th Dec 2016
Report: K. Williams
Steve Atkin made the long trip across the UK again to the latest round of
the WOR Quad winter Enduro series and once again he topped the 4x4 Expert
group but only just. Atkin finished just 12 seconds ahead of Runner Up,
Simon "The Squire" Lang, both the two front runners are Can-Am
mounted and both seem to excel in proper winter Enduro conditions. The 7
mile lap that WOR had set out was in great shape and had plenty of
challenges for the Quad riders to tackle. Number 5, Simon Clowes was in good
form too as he matched the top riders 8 laps in the 2.5hr duration to secure
3rd spot in class.
The track has a split on the course for the 2WD Quads to go a shorter
route, one that would be less painful to their lower chassis and prevent any
unwanted bottle necks, so this made the 2WD folk complete more laps in their
2.5hr race. Topping this group was Top Expert rider, Jason Mcbeth. Mcbeth
completed 9 laps and he even went and did the full length track on his last
lap, just see what he'd been missing. Runner Up 2wd Expert was Santino
Morgan.
Top Clubman 2WD was Will Baxendale on his Honda and KTM mounted Tudor
Roberts in the Runners Up spot. Mark French took a well earned 3rd spot in
class albeit a few laps down on the leaders. A special mention to Danny
Gillingham whom was miles out in front of the class and really putting in
some great times before a mechanical gremlin inside the gear box of his
Honda put paid to his race with an early stop and DNF.

The
4x4 Clubman class had Andy Perkins sitting aloft as the winner as he
completed 7 laps and was just over a minute ahead of Durham's Stuart Marley
(Can-Am) also with 7 laps to his credit. Victoria Andrews took the final
spot on the podium and also the rider of the day award for her efforts in
this demanding and challenging woodlands.
The recent new Farm bike class was popular again and had Oli Keen top it
from Dave Tarn and Marc Hogg with 7, 5 and 4 laps respectively being
completed on the trusty agricultural machines.
It was great to see a good turn out of quads enjoy the cold but fresh and
bright winter weather with a top quality "proper" Enduro track
laid out for them and now the attention turns to the next round of the quad
series in a few weeks time at the same venue (different track) on Sunday Dec
18th as the 2nd round gets underway.
The WOR org would like to as always thanks each and everybody involved in
running these events and more importantly the riders that come out and trust
and support in the events. "
