Round three of the Ecosse XC winter championship got underway at the weekend starting with an interesting night race staged in two parts. Riders had an hour at dusk to get to grips with the challenging hare and hound course at Tyninghame Links, East Lothian, before having a quick tea break and starting the next stage where they would have an hour and a half in the dark.

Among the starters was Husqvarna rider Billy Bolt. Billy's trials skills came in handy as he jumped over logs with no effort at all and stormed through the boggy sections with ease, putting him safely in first position completing 8 laps overall.

The main event was an hour and a half youth race and a three hour race for the adults the following day. The rain stayed away but there was a bitter cold wind to cool the riders as they raced. The track was greasy to begin with but became claggy and gave plenty of grip as the race went on, forming some deep ruts.

Extreme Enduro rider Billy Bolt battled with Scottish star Fraser Flockhart throughout the race until Billy had an argument with a tree which opened up a gap between him and Fraser, leaving him to race against Andrew Bissett who was sitting in third position, all completing 12 laps.

Kyle Deswert stomped the competition in the over 40's managing 11 laps whilst Gav Elliott and James Harvey rode 10 laps battling behind. The over 50's was again very popular. Andrew Maben took the win also completing 10 laps, in front of Rob Swinbank in second and Andrew Dean in third.

In the Youths, Logan Hendry went well gaining first place. Dominic Stevenson and Tom Hume battled bar to bar for the whole race, continually passing each other. Dominic eventually took second place only 0.6 seconds in front of Tom.

Cristina Palmer gained first place in the Juniors, leading her class round the track, handling the slippy conditions with ease. Sam Boyd followed Cristina 3 minutes apart with Ryan Gerrard coming in third place.

A successful day was had by all! Results

The final round of the winter championship will take place on the 9th April at Tyninghame Links.
