Round two of the RAW Enduro Rock Oil Championship rolled
into the superb Ellington Banks near Ripon on Mothers day. After mid week
heavy rain, Clerk of the Course Wayne Braybrook chose to run his favoured
long loop course which provides some of the best enduro riding the north
of England has to offer. Fast open fire roads, loamy forest fire breaks,
and the tried and tested MOD sandy driver training areas proved a real hit
with the massive turn out of riders on the day.
Richie
Moorhouse was the man on a mission in the Youth A Class as he turned the
tables on Round 1 winner Shay Page, Shay is committed to this season with
RAW and is looking like taking the fight to pre season favourite Moorhouse.
Third place finisher Jamie Williams is another rider who will surely take
race wins once he’s used to the faster pace of youth A. Cory Cookland
had a race long battle to secure the Youth B class win, just edging out
Sam Boyd by literally seconds at the flag, Bert Boam continues to ride
well in his first proper championship taking third place back home with
him.
With Blue skies in charge for the day and the Media
Drones hovering, the packed AM start area was fired into life a few
minutes behind schedule. The New Apico Holeshot system was in place for
the first time this season, a running table of holeshots from each round
will be kept and updated, at the end of the ten round series Apico goodies
will be rolled out for the fastest starter in each class, social media
bragging rights are high on the list for this category!!
Sportsman
class honours went to Joe Moore who reeled off the laps in fine style to
take the sportsman class win and now the lead of the sportsman
championship after two rounds. RG Racing rider Ben Walker earned a great
second spot after being pushed on by team manager Richard Gamble. Enduro
newcomer Mark Hodges had a great finish to take third overall. Phil
Dodsworth again topped the Sportsman Vets table with Jonathan Ellis taking
runner up. Big Shout to Martyn Thomas for waking up extra early taking the
Apico Holeshot points in this class. In the old lads Over 50 class Gary
Morley proved his sharpness as he Holeshot on his Beta and eventually
brought it home in third place, runner up was D3 Racing boss Neil Crayston
with North Easterner Andrew Dean taking top spot. Simon Tate was the
winner of the Novice class on his RAW Replica Husqvarna FE250, since
moving from an MX bike to a real enduro bike Simon has improved no end.
Stephen Boyle took runner up place after a tight battle with Grant Cooper
on his Crystal Paints supported Honda.
With the track berming up nicely, and the AM race presentations complete,
a healthy line up of Top northern Experts and Clubman were ready to race.
Eurotek Boss Mark Jackson had a ride out at his local race, showing the
young pups who’s boss by taking the Apico Holeshot points back to
Eurotek HQ. A great battle played out in the expert class as the 2.5 hour
race ran, Sam Winterburn again dominated the class with a superb display
of riding. Behind Sam places were changing, Zac Sherwin overcame a dead
last away start to bring his Appleyard RAW supported FX350 home in runner
up spot. Brad Lilburn out on his new TE250 Husqvarna had a race long
battle with Mark Jackson, eventually Lilburn taking a well-earned third
after Lee Sampson Retired his Sherco for the second time this year with a
collapsed rear Mousse. Mark Jackson finished in forth place just ahead of
his son James Jackson.
Lewis
Ellis was again the man on the pace in Clubman, Ellis now leads the
Clubman Class Championship with the first two races suiting his MX
background. Lee Stansfield was runner up in class, with RG Racing rider
James Gamble pulling his finger out at his local event to take a great
third place. John Bradford rolled over the finish line to take the Expert
Vets class win stating this was the best track ever at Ellington. Paul
McSorley enjoyed his day out on his WR Yamaha to place runner up. Mark
Raynor took third place. A returning popular face Danny Clarke overcame a
bout of midweek sickness to race in the Clubman Vets class, taking the win
DC is now thinking of retirement whilst he’s a race winner! James Cooke
Thomas was delighted finish runner up despite kicking himself after
missing the win by a mere 7 seconds at the flag!
