Jamie McCanney Claims Double Podium Result At GP Of Spain

Following a rather unusual start to the season in the snow-filled trails of Finland the GP of Spain offered Loïc Larrieu and Jamie McCanney a chance to show their true potential, with the Outsiders Yamaha Official Enduro Team duo battling for the provisional victory in their respective classes. Wrapping up a tough event on a high note, Jamie earned two runner-up results in the Enduro 2 class, with Loïc well-placed inside the top five in the premier EnduroGP category on both days of competition in Spain.

Taking place in Puerto Lumbreras, the EnduroGP of Spain was contested under extremely dusty conditions. Featuring tough connecting sections combined with long and technical special tests, it was quite a challenge for all competitors. Quickly adapting to this particular terrain, Jamie McCanney got a competitive race pace and was able to battle for the Enduro 2 class win from the get go. Earning two runner-up class results the Brit climbed to third in the Enduro 2 championship standings.

Involved in some great battles with the elite of EnduroGP class riders, Loïc Larrieu kicked off the EnduroGP of Spain collecting a fifth place result on day one of the event. Improving on his pace on the second day of racing in Spain, the WR450F mounted rider remained part of the battle for the win until the last special test. Eventually finishing fourth, Loïc was five seconds behind the top three and less than seven seconds behind the eventual winner.

Jamie's and Loïc's performances at the GP of Spain are a good reward for the hard work all Outsiders Yamaha Official Enduro Team members are putting in this season.

Outsiders Yamaha Official Enduro Team manager Marc Bourgeois is satisfied with the results from Spain: "We were truly looking forward to this GP. Despite missing on a provisional podium result, Loïc clearly showed he has the speed to battle with the riders in front of him. Putting in some very competitive times, he is positive for some improved results in the races to come. As for Jamie, he showed more of his world championship winning form in Spain. Despite his relatively young age Jamie has a lot of experience and that shows in his riding. Remaining calm and collected throughout the weekend, he managed to deliver some great results. We are happy with the performance of both our riders and we are looking forward to the rest of the season…”

Loïc Larrieu: ""We've made some big progress here in Spain and I'm really happy about that. Starting the GP with a small crash during the Super Test, I pushed hard on day one to make up for the time lost. We gave a good fight throughout the day and despite a few small mistakes we managed to claim fifth. There was one particular part in the enduro test, a difficult uphill with nothing but stones, and we all struggled to avoid losing time there. On day two we tried a new line but that didn't help us improve our times. I spent most of day two fighting for the top three in my class. It was a really close fight and at the end of the day there were just six seconds separating us four riders in the top four spots. We showed the speed is there to battle for the top three, which is great at the start of a long season. We will continue working hard and I believe that if I manage to minimise mistakes a podium result or even a win is well within our reach.”

Jamie McCanney: "It feels good to wrap up the GP with two podium results. I want to thank all the members of our team for their hard work and dedication. Following our fifth place in the Super Test, we started day one with a small disadvantage of seven seconds to Josep Garcia. Without that we could have applied the pressure to Josep a bit more on day one. I'm happy we got a fast and steady pace throughout the day and without any major mistakes we ended up getting the runner-up spot. Conditions got even tougher on day two and I was riding more on the cautious side. Getting off to a strong start I focused on maintaining my second position. We got some great championship points here in Spain. The season is going to be long so it's important to remain consistent from now on.”
