EVENTS NATIONAL HARE SCRAMBLES 2017
Round 3 Llwyn Ynn Hall, Ruthin North Wales - May. Gary Daniels was the victor at the latest offering from WOR Events in the National Hare Scramble series last weekend at the club’s majestic venue, Llwyn Ynn Hall near Ruthin in North Wales. This once a year special venue is set in a beautiful old fallen mansion’s gardens and parklands with an air of tranquillity all around it, until the riders get on their bikes that is, and face the brutal, technical and demanding woodlands that hide behind that comfy first impression of the place. Added to the woodlands is a near 2 miles grass field special test type area that all added together offers the riders a 4-mile lap with an average 15-minute a lap ride time. This was round 3 of the championship and was again well attended by riders and spectators alike. Daniels in the Experts was in his usual understated form looking smooth, unbothered and deceptively fast as his pushed the 2t Husky to the top of the podium, He most certainly didn’t have it all his own way though as George Price (Husky 300) made a very welcome return to the ranks at WOR after a lengthy time away due to work and stuff, pushed Daniels all the way and to the end keeping the race honest with a superb performance to take the runners up spot. Price’s effort of speed and stamina following that lay off was very impressive indeed. Jack Cadwallader made it a Husqvarna, 1, 2, 3 on the podium as he slammed his little 125 around the woods with some flair indeed showing that the little motor was as competitive as anything in the challenging tree sections and fast grass corners. 13 laps a piece was the final score after 2.5hrs of racing. Chris Wagstaff (Yamaha) took the top spot in Expert Vets, avenging his last round defeat to Steve Pattinson (KTM) whom again proved to be a fair and equal challenger Wagstaff and took the silver award on the day. Kev Freeman rode a consistent and steady pace to secure 3rd spot on his 2t KTM in class albeit a lap down on the top two riders.
Clubman Vets victory belonged to Darren Skillin (Husky) with a comfortable winning margin to his credit. Topping the group by over 6 minutes to Runner Up, Martin Walker (KTM), with Stacey Greensall (Husky) rounding the podium out in 3rd place. Skillin and Walker completed 12 laps each with Greensall on 11 after the 2.5hrs was up. In the first of the 2hr race classes, It was once again that man Colin
Griffiths (KTM) that was the one to beat in the Over 50 group as he kept up his
domination of the class with a 2-minute advantage over Colin Jones (Husky)
although Jones did make Griffiths work very hard for an hour as he took the
lead with some fast laps. 3rd spot in class went to Martin Wells with a steady
ride out on his 2t Husqvarna. Anthony Foulkes (Husaberg) topped the Sportsman Vets class with a great ride as he led from Start to finish to eventually have a 2 minute plus comfort zone over 2nd placed Kieron Jordan. Jordan (KTM) doing a late race push to climb to the trophy placings showing great stamina and speed so late in the race. Lee Sephton and his trusty Sherco took the 3rd placed award with all 3 riders doing 9 laps as their final score.
Top Novice was Max Eilledge as he pipped Runner Up, Adam Bates by 6 seconds to seal the win. 3rd placed Dan Griffiths was a solid 9 lap man too as he fully deserved his podium place. The weekend was a cracker for all concerned with a massive turn out over 300 riders in the two days of action, A very busy Tiny Warriors and some very close and exciting racing in all the classes of the main race, it was a 100% successful event as expected from Steve Ireland and his WOR Events team. WOR as always wish to send out a huge thank you to all the sponsors, medics, landowners, caterers, staff and helpers with the biggest thanks saved as always, for the masses of riders that come turned out to support the event and make them happen.
