Launch of the 2017 Team Wales Measteg MCC hosted the launch of the 2017 Welsh ISDE team at their Cwm Farteg track on a gloriously sunny Summer's evening this week. Wales is currently undergoing a renaissance of enduro riding and Team Wales Manager Neville King received 12 applications for selection to the Welsh team. Always a difficult task, Neville turned the process on it's head by asking all the applicants 'if they were in his shoes who they would choose' and the result is one of the strongest and most experienced teams that Wales has posted for years;
Tom Sagar from Welshpool is a multi British and 2015 European Champion. He revels in the toughest and most technically demanding going. His impressive CV includes runner up from the Tough One and at Erzberg on the Iron Giant as well as a 5th place at Hells Gate. Hugely experienced Tom has recently joined Fast Eddy Racing to headline their training division. He has competed in 9 International Six Days and he has won 8 gold medals. He says he is looking forward riding in France as the French fans create such a great atmosphere. Tom will be riding a Husqvarna 450.
Jamie Lewis from Ferndale was a motocross champion before he saw the light and attached it to the front of his bike to become an Enduro Champion. 2016 was a great year for Jamie as he won the Welsh Enduro Championship overall and the ACU British Enduro E2 Championship. It was inevitable that he would be selected by Team GB for the Spanish ISDE and he justified his selection by winning his 4th Gold medal and making his contribution to the best British result in the World Trophy for 30 years. 2017 has started well for Jamie with a win in the opening round of the European Enduro Championship in Gouveia and he is looking to be standing on the ISDE podium again in Brive, Jamie will be riding Off Road Experience Yamaha 450.
Jason Thomas from Machynlleth won the Dawn to Dusk in 2007 before taking Horace Greeley's advice to "Go West Young Man" and he moved to North America. Initially competing in Canada, Jason logged a string of success. He was the Canadian Enduro-Cross Winner 2008 and 2010, Canadian 12 hour Extreme Cross-Country Champion (La Tuque,Quebec,2008), Canadian Cross-Country Champion 2008 / Canadian Enduro Champion 2008 and 2010. In 2012 Jason went south of the border into the USA and began racing in the GNCC series winning the Pro-lites XC2 Championship in that year and again in 2015. Jason has competed in the International Six Days 4 times and he has come away with 4 Gold medals plus the 2008 ACU Arthur Prince Award for the best British performance at the ISDE. Jason will be riding a 250 2T.
Chris Edwards of P3 will be putting his support behind the team
