EVENTS NATIONAL HARE SCRAMBLES RD 4 – BADEN HALL JUNE The latest round of the WOR Events National Hare Scrambles Enduro series took the championship to the halfway point last weekend at the always popular Baden Hall venue in Staffs. The 5mile lap had everything a rider could want in it with woodlands and open going making a terrific mix. The event got underway at bang on 11am and catered for riders in a 2hr race or a 2.5hr race depending on what class they were in.
Steve Pattison is proving to be the top Expert Vet this year at WOR as he just gets quicker and smoother in every race he attends. Steve held off the challenge of Darren Skillin and Kev Freeman and was the only rider in class to complete 13 laps. Skillin and Freeman had a right ding dong with Husky mounted Skillin taking the runner up position from Freeman after a late race surge. Raife Mcdonald had a great ride in the Clubman to take a 13 lap score to the top spot of the podium as he led the class from start to finish in the 2.5hrs. Runner Up Paul Engerlen was his usual consistent self as he put a comfortable gap between himself and 3rd placed Ben Martindale. Martindale deserves a special mention after moving himself to Clubman class after performing well in the Novice and Sportsman ranks and is now proving to be a Clubman podium rider. Stacey Greensall dug deep and did his best in not his favourite conditions to take a well-deserved Clubman Vets win on his Husky 300. Stacey (12 Laps) seeing off the challenge of Martin Walker (11 laps) and Lee Allis Smith (10 laps) in 2nd and 3rd place respectively in class. Enduro Legend and Multy British Enduro champion, Ady Smith was in attendance in the Over 50’s class for the first time in his long and successful career. Smith in fact was late and missed the start by a good 4 and half minutes. You know what’s coming here though, the smooth effortless style will never go away and by the end of the 2 hour over 50’s race it was Smith sitting at the top of the class (and the entire 2hr race field) by 4 minutes, always nice on the eye to watch Smith tackle the terrain. Runner Up was the big man Colin Griffiths whom after a real battle with Colin Jones for over an hour pushed on to take the silver award in class. 3rd spot eventually went to Stephen Parry with a consistent ride and capitalising on Colin Jones retirement at the 1-and-a-half-hour mark.
The Sportsman victory went to Liam Belfield on his Yamaha 250 2t. Provisional results on the day contained an error that had Belfield as Runner Up but on the final results publication it was Liam that again continues to dominate the class as he becomes better and better by the race. Runner Up was Jamie Johnson being the only other rider in class to match Belfield’s 10 laps. 3rd Sportsman was Rhys Evans again showing his comeback after a good few years is well and truly on track. James Cooke Thomas took a well-deserved Sportsman Vets win, it’s not very often James rides with WOR and when he does its usually at BADEN Hall, he certainly goes well there that’s for sure as he had a 3-minute advantage over Runner Up, Mark Plain and 3rd placed Kieron Jordan. Jamie Williams was again in superb form as he blasted his #220 KTM 85 to the top of the Youth class and also 8th Overall in the 2hr race with 9 laps.. Haydn Tyrer took second place on 8 laps with Frank Skillin securing 3rd place also on 8 laps.
The event went slickly and without any problems as you would expect from the vastly experienced WOR Events team. The track had marshals everywhere in all the key areas needed and the course was applauded by all the riders as they crossed the finish line. WOR would like as always to thank all the staff, all the medics, caterers, sponsors, land owners and of course the masses of riders that came out to support the event over the weekend.
