Norwood Teversal is a well known old scrambles venue from the 70’s. RAW Enduro had their annual once per year visit last Sunday which saw some of the best competition of the 2017 season so far. The on track action was superb to watch with the competitors who did take part. Wayne Braybrook had excelled with his course design at Norwood, even grading up the old MX circuit the week before, this blended perfectly with the woodland trails and made this a race which many riders said was the best Norwood ever!.

Youth A Rider Jamie Williams continued to be the man in form taking an easy win from second place Richie Moorhouse. Kieran Austin had a weekend off from MX racing to take a well deserved third place against the enduro regulars. Isle of Man resident William Cawte once again made the trip across to take a fine Youth B win, Cory Cookland was runner up by less than one minute with Youth B Championship leader Burt Boam taking third.

At 10:30 sharp the AM adult event were flagged away for their 2 hour event. Norwood is known by many as a venue that in wet conditions very difficult to ride, when it’s dry however Norwood is simply one of the best venues to race on. Sundays dry conditions meant the course took in lots of new routes to test riders from all classes. Rick Huntingdon was surprise winner of the Sportsman Vets class after he passed early leader Mark Cockfield, Mark was happy enough with his runner up spot. Neil Myers took third place with all the top 10 Vets on 12 laps completed. The Sportsman class was a battle of the young guns, with Cole Cookland taking a good strong win as he continues to look every bit a future top rider. Saul Hirst was challenging Cookland for a few laps after a dead last away start until a school boy error left him with a badly bruised theigh, Hirst had clouting a tree due to youthful over exhuberance. This meant Liam Ryde was able to boost his championship position with a fine second place, Isaac Archer is looking more like an established Enduro rider with each race which passes, he held a great final podium place to now help his championship cause for 2017. Andrew Dean was the only Over50 to complete 13 laps to take the win, with RAW Regular Steve Johnson grabbing second place from serving fireman Pete Fletcher in third. Simon Tate continues to dominate the Novice class, he did however have to work for the win with runner up Steve Butterfield keeping him honest. Equally Stephen Boyle placed third less than a minute down on second.

A small but talent packed PM race lined up ready to tear up the Norwood hard pack track. Lee Sampson was early leader in the Expert class, he was caught and passed at half race distance by Colin Appleyard’s Zac Sherwin who took the overall win and now leads the Championship. Lee Sampson held on to runner up place despite having Boiled his Sherco rear brake in the hot conditions. Local lad and Norwood fan Josh Bailey enjoyed his weekend racing a local event, he took a great third place in the expert class on his KTM. Lewis Ellis continued his domination of the Clubman class in his first year of Enduro racing. Lewis showed his MX skills as he flew around Norwood entertaining everyone on his MJMX KTM. Raife McDonald was runner up with RAW member Tommy Grimmer really finding his feet in the clubman class taking a close fought third. Lee Pallet was victor in the Clubman Vets with James Cooke Thomas finishing runner up.
June is a busy month For RAW Enduro, only a 5 day turn around before the Organisation roll into Carlton Grange on the East side of Helmsley for Round 6 of the Championship. Carlton Grange is only used twice per year by Motorcycles, it offers a great traditional Woodland enduro feel. A new paddock and Parking field is in use for this event meaning all the action takes place right along side the paddock area.
