GP PORTUGAL Round 6 McCanney Secures Double Victory In Portugal, Larrieu Remains Second In EnduroGP Championship Standings Putting in a dominant performance in Portugal, Outsiders Yamaha Official Enduro Team rider Jamie McCanney wrapped up round six of the 2017 FIM EnduroGP World Championship claiming two Enduro 2 class victories. Getting the best out of a physically demanding EnduroGP of Portugal, his EnduroGP class partner Loïc Larrieu secured two fourth places results in Castelo Branco. Living up to everyone's expectations, the GP of Portugal proved to be a great physical and mental challenge for all competitors. Contested under extremely hot temperatures, the GP featured a technical extreme test and more two long and challenging special tests that tested riders' stamina and physical strength. Earning two victories in the 250cc class of the series Jamie McCanney has reduced his gap to the rider provisionally leading the championship to six points. With Loïc also second in the EnduroGP championship standings both riders are still well in contention for the titles in their respective classes. Marc Bourgeois - Outsiders Yamaha Official Enduro Team manager "Both our team riders have done a great job in Portugal. This GP has been quite challenging for our riders and all the members of our team. It was also quite a challenge for our bikes. The heat was unbearable and the trails were technical with lots of dust. Loïc struggled to find a good race pace and was thus unable to show his full potential. He gave all he had battling against the top riders in the EnduroGP class but made a few small mistakes. I'm confident he will come back stronger and battle again for the win in the following round in Great Britain. As for Jamie, there's really not much more we could have asked from him. I'm really happy that all the hard work Jamie is putting in is finally paying off. Going from strength to strength he becomes faster in every GP. He's now placed second in the Enduro 2 championship standings just six points behind the provisional leader. With the following GP taking place in his home country, I'm hoping he can continue his strong run of form.”
Loïc Larrieu – Outsiders Yamaha Official Enduro Team rider "It was a tough event. Starting the weekend with a win in the SuperTest was great. For the rest of the weekend, the enduro test and the cross test were both too long and you had to keep pushing and pushing to get good times. I did my best but couldn't get the best of feelings in these two tests. On the contrary, I felt really good in the shorter extreme test and managed to put in some competitive times. Overall, it was just one of these challenging GPs and I kept working to improve my times. I'm still second in the championship standings and this gives me some extra motivation to continue the hard work. The next couple of weeks will be very busy. We'll start with the French Enduro Championship and then head straight to the ISDE. My focus remains on the coming round of the EnduroGP series in Great Britain. I'm hoping conditions there will be closer to what I'm used to. Thanks to all the team members for all their great work." Jamie McCanney - Outsiders Yamaha Official Enduro Team rider "Things couldn't have gone any better. Taking a double victory in my class and also topping the outright standings on Sunday has been a huge confidence booster. On day one I got a small gap from the first special test, which I managed to extend during the day. Trying to avoid mistakes I could control my pace and also save some energy for the following day. Conditions were really demanding in Portugal. On day two I really gave everything I had for the win. All the members of our team did an excellent job this weekend and that gave me the extra motivation to keep pushing. I'm hoping I can repeat this performance in the following round of the series in my home country. The gap to the provisional championship leader is now down to six points and with two more rounds to go anything can happen.” The Outsiders Yamaha Official Enduro Team return to action at the third round of the French Enduro Championship in Gye sur Seine on July 29/30.
