WOR EVENTS NATIONAL HARE SCRAMBLES QUADS – RD 8 – FIRBANK CUMBRIA SEPTEMBER 2017

“Benbow’s day, Wildman’s series!”

Report: Keith Williams

“The National Hare Scrambles series for Quads ran by WOR Events drew to a superb, if a little bit muddy conclusion last weekend with the final round taking place on the vast Cumbrian fellside in Firbank. The 2.5hr race was ran in quite pleasant weather despite conditions underfoot being muddy and challenging due to the previous week’s downpours.

The course was a twisty, open moorland affair of around 11 minutes plus a lap and with its rocks and natural terrain obstacles it certainly did challenge the riders. Martin Benbow on the 750 Suzuki King quad is always there or thereabouts and has regularly challenged the bigger 1000cc Polaris and Can- Am specialist machines all season with his superb efforts on the farm bike, this race was no different and after his challengers suffering punctures and overheating problems it was Martin that secured the day win from Tom Jones and Jason Wildman in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

Jason Wildman has had a superb season and wrapped up the title for Polaris with a 6 wins out of 8 leaving the Suzuki of Benbow as series runner up and the Can -Am of Jones in a solid 3rd spot. Dean Foster won the 4x4 Clubman class on the day with a 3 wheeled Danny Gillighan in Second spot and Shaun Wealleans in a solid 3rd. All 3 going well in the demanding conditions.

The ever-young Nigel Morris from Wrexham took the 2wd Clubman win and finished a brilliant 2nd overall in the championship with this solid ride. Morris finished ahead of Alex Trowler and Lee Carpenter in 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

It was a nice wrap up to the series and the 8 rounds and 1 Wildcard have certainly offered all the riders that have taken part a truly varied and exciting championship. The feedback has been that WOR have certainly delivered a “PROPER” Enduro series and not beat about the bush by providing safe and challenging tracks, hard yet achievable and varied like no other series.

WOR would like to thank all of the Quad riders and racers that have supported the series and made it happen, along with Mike Pryce ATV whom has given plenty of behind the scenes help to the WOR track building team, all the land owners for the use of the fantastic venues and to the cracking set of quad supporters that make such a nice “raceday” atmosphere for the 4 wheelers.

The 2018 National Hare Scrambles dates will be out soon with anew Sunday Morning race slot ..Keep your eye on www.worevents.com  for the latest.”
