HOLCOMBE READY FOR 2017 ENDUROGP FINAL IN GERMANY

Carrying a 40-point lead into this weekend’s eighth and final round of the 2017 EnduroGP World Championship, Steve Holcombe is set to take on what is expected to be a challenging GP of Germany as he hopes to secure a second consecutive enduro world title.

Winning the FIM Enduro 3 World Championship last season at the end of his first year of senior class competition, 2017 has seen Steve take on the biggest challenge of his career to date – that of competing in the EnduroGP class alongside defending champion Matt Phillips, former world champion Christophe Nambotin as well as competitors like Nathan Watson, Loic Larrieu and more.

Making a strong start to the championship, Steve finished as runner-up on the second day of competition at the frozen season opening event in Finland. It was the first of 11 podium finishes he’s earned so far this year. Winning in Italy, Greece, Portugal and Great Britain, Steve heads to Germany confident of lifting the coveted EnduroGP title and focused on securing the handful of points needed to once again become world champion.

Steve Holcombe: “I guess this is the big one. This final round seemed so far away when I was training for the first race in Finland at the start of the year, a lot has happened since then but I’m just as hungry to win this title now as I was then. With a 40-point lead I can’t pretend that I don't have one hand on this championship, because clearly, I do. But I’m certainly not complacent about my position in the championship. This is a hugely important moment in my career. It’s going to be a tough event this weekend – I need to focus on what I need to do and try and enjoy it. I’m really looking forward to it, it should be cool with lots of excitement in all classes. Since the British GP I’ve been keeping on top of my fitness but not overdoing things on my enduro bike. There’s been lots of cycling and I feel really good. Leading the championship, it’s a strange situation to be in. But it’s one I’ve worked hard to be in so I’m just looking forward to racing in Germany now.”
