Dating back to the Domesday book of 1098, and then a change of title to "Ashby Puerorum" in the 13th century, the Lincolnshire village name roughly translates as "Little Boys, Ashby". A mere eight centuries later, and for the 2nd time this year it was the "Big boys" turn to play in the village, with round 3 of LEC/Gear4's 2018 enduro race series. (History lesson over folks!)

Once again, it was two 90 minute races over a 5 mile route that ran into wooded sections, open fields, but mainly into sandy areas on the old Moto X track. Due to a recent spell of dry weather, the main enemy of the day for the 147 entrants was probably the dust thrown up in the faster field sections. It definitely claimed a few riders who may have become unsighted / disorientated / crash victims/lost !! (On a personal note, I actually came to a complete standstill at one point. I couldn't see a darn thing !). Two classes that were very close after 3 hours racing were Clubman class and Sportsman (2T) class. Winner Daniel Key and Michael Harris were only separated by 21 seconds in Clubman, whilst just 3 seconds saw victory for Carl Gordon over Rikki Harris in the (2T) group. As it's very early on in the season, nobody is stretching a lead out in any class. One rider who perhaps has his nose in front is Kev Bartle (Senior) who has a clean sweep in every round so far. (Trail and Classic class). No other rider in any other class has a hat trick of wins. Other guys showing their cards though are Carl Gordon who now has two wins out of three in the Sportsman two stroke class, and Nicholas Saunby who has had the same results in the four stroke Sportsman group. Other class winners from round 3 were as follows.
Experts....Thomas Braddock/Over 40's...Alec Owen/Clubmen...Daniel Key/Over 50's...Jason Warren/Sportsman (4T)...Rob Millar. Beginners...Dan Hugill.

As usual, a big thank you must go to all the helpers, marshals, first aiders etc. A lot of effort goes into the events before, during, and after all riders have vacated the race venue. Without these guys, who can be very much in the background, our sport couldn't exist. The timekeeping has also been second to none. Based in Peterborough , "Ticktock timing" have proved vital for the club. Their service certainly takes away any guesswork and head scratching from lap scoring ! ( www.ticktocktiming.co.uk )

And obviously, there's also Rosie's Country Kitchen to be thankful for !

Round 4 is on July 8th at Thoresway near Caistor. Details and entries etc will be on the ACU website and the clubs Facebook site. Now where's the dust mask ?

The photos are of Adam Savage (142) and Ben Schneider (27) having fun in the "rock garden", Alec Owen (501) on his way to victory in the Over 40's and likewise, (no 185), Thomas Braddock in the water splash, sealing his win in the Experts class
