Jacks the Lad at Norwood 2019 Rock Oil Championship Round 3 With just under 60 Youth riders assembled on the start at Norwood, and with heavy overnight rain making the ground very slippy on top, the huge Youth Entry coped admirably in the testing conditions. A slight tweak to the track by Clerk of the Course Wayne Braybrook after 30 minutes, helped youth riders to lap consistently around the 12 minute lap. Billy Haig was head and shoulders above all other youth riders winning Youth A. Billy's pace has earned him a Clubman Fastrack upgrade at all future RAW Enduro Events. With the next seven Youth A riders all on the pace, it was Cory Cookland who placed runner up whilst John Stanley just managed to hold off Bert Boam who placed 4th with Stanley taking third. Cristina Palmer was part of a large Scottish contingent, some who travelled 6 hours to compete in this race. The wee lass who has great MX skills fixed her enduro head on for Sunday and took a well unassisted win in Youth B. RAW Regular Hayden Stansfield was runner up with local lad Ailbe OcConnell in third. The Junior 65/Auto warriors was an 11 strong field headed home by Conner Gulbrandsen. Jack Houghton was runner up on his 65, and James Lindsey made his trip worthwhile taking the final podium place back home. Well done to all Youth riders in what were quite testing condition early on in the day.
With the AM race wrapped, another busy Start area with no less than 18 Expert riders was flagged away. The battle for top spot in Experts was always going to be a tough one at Norwood. Lee Sampson headed the expert field for a couple of laps before a small crash ended his day. Lee got his knee brace caught on his KTM rad panel as he was getting back on his bike, then fell over and dislocated his shoulder! Lee returned to the track later on after a quick visit to Mansfield hospital to have the shoulder eased back into place by medical experts. This left Jack Spencer to take the lead and overall win despite his drinks pack not working all race. Fellow Lancastrian Chris Windle kept Spencer honest before he got caught behind a slower rider at a bad part of the track, this allowed Cole Cookland and the hard charging Josh Bailey to nip past him in the closing stages of the race to take second and third respectfully. Another class rammed with riders was Clubman, again 18 very sharp clubman riders went head to head around Norwood. The on form Jamie Williams took the class win by three and a half minutes from James Clarke in runner up place. Les Mudie decided to have a ride after helping marshal the Youth race earlier in the day. Third on the day was a credable ride in a competitive class. Lee Stansfield took his first win of 2019 at the head of the Elite Vets class, Vince Harker was on a mission in second place just over a minute after Stansfield, and Steve Pattinson was just one minute further adrift of the top two riders in third.
Norwood Teversal once again rose to provide some awesome racing in real Enduro conditions, well done to all riders. A fast Turn around sees RAW Enduro heading to Pateley Bridge in North Yorkshire on May 11th 12th for the most stunning venue on the RAW Enduro Event schedule. This is one event not to miss!! See you all high on the hills for Round 4. All Event Info: www.rawenduro.co.uk
