Rock Oil Championship Round 8

Report: RAW Media
With almost all the UK having being delivered horrendous
weather during September, Wayne Braybrook at RAW Enduro was right on the ball,
making sure he had two venues booked for the final round of the Rock Oil
Championship. His Belt and braces approach meant that Round 8 ran without any
issues at the awesome all weather Ellington Banks venue in wet drizzly
conditions.
John Stanley came to ripon as the Youth A 2019 Champion; his
third place on the day was a close fought battle with runner up Sam Boyd who
finished just 40 seconds in front. Brandon Burns ran out winner by a further
minute, having missed two races at the start of the season Burns had to settle
for forth overall in 2019. Hayden Stansfield was runner up at round 8, with
his Youth B title secure, Hayden has now achieved his goal as he moves to
Youth A for 2020. Cristina Palmer smashed the Youth B class win, now almost
back to full fitness Cristina wins the trophy for the most miles covered
traveling from Scotland to most race weekends. Jack Wall was the star of the
day taking the Junior, (Short Course) win. James Lindsey placed runner up and
Brooke Mudie finished third on the day. With Autos and Juniors getting their
own marshalled Short Course at RAW events, RAW are now focussing on the 2020
Youth scene once again, they will be growing with the partnership they have
with the Northern Youth Enduro Championship. Thanks to all Parents and
sponsors for getting behind this New Championship in its infancy. Roll on 2020
we'll take it a few more steps up the ladder.
On to the adult race, and with lots of fair weather riders
opting to stay on the couch at home, the decision was taken to run one
combined race at this final championship race. Knowing a lap time was in the
region of 12-14 minutes, Clerk of the course Wayne Braybrook knew the venue
could cope with more riders in one race.
Jack
Spencer took his Sandiford supported Beta to a fine Expert class win in the
greasy conditions, his smooth calculated riding style saw him win by just over
three minutes from the 2019 newly crowned Expert Champion Lewis Ellis on his
MJMX backed KTM. Robbie Wallace rolled the dice at Round 8 and pushed on for a
fine third place that moved him up to third overall in the Expert class. Jamie
Williams collected his bike on Saturday when it returned from Sea to Sky. It
seems Extreme events are bike wreckers as Williams KTM called "no
more" and refused to run on Sunday. So a stand in Mikey from Appleyard's
lent Williams his bike to compete on. Jamie grabbed the Clubman win and runner
up in the Championship. Richard Taylor pushed super hard all race to place
runner up which netting him Third in the Championship by two slender points.
Stand out rider of the Adult race was James Clark who in his first real
Championship year has been consistent, his third at ripon saw him crowned
Clubman Champion for 2019. Mark Raynor loves the wet conditions; his Elite
Vets win was a great ride on 10 laps. Shaun Woffinden moved up from Sportsman
Elite last year and has grabbed the Elite vets overall for his efforts this
season.
The
Sportsman Vets class was thrown wide open when Championship leader Kris Farrar
didn't arrive at the event. With nerves jangling Mick Robson took the win from
Andy Williams who has improved massively in 2019. Behind the front two, a
titanic battle was happening out on track with Andy Kirby and his mate Steven
Dean. Dean held out and pushed on to take third place at his home race.
Kirby's 4th on the day was enough to take the 2019 Sportsman Vets
Championship. With Sportsman Champ Scott Hipwell moving up to Clubman, Lewis
Donlan grabbed his chance to take the win in class. Anthony Turner took first
place championship points to secure runner up overall in the Rock Oil
Championship. In a last few laps push, Anthony Farrow was the winner of the
day points wise stealing third overall in his first year of Enduro's, from the
absent Grant Cooper. 'Stephen Boyle always seems to go well in testing
conditions, his over 50 class win was dominant on the day. Mark Peckitt's
runner up gave him a four-point advantage in the championship again placing
runner up. Mark Stoneley just missed staying on the lead lap after a battle
with Simon Nutter and Colin Mills. Mills ended up the 2019 Over 50 Champ with
his third place points from Ripon. Nick Manger was assured the Sportsman Elite
class win on lap one as Lewis Fletcher went out with mechanical issues. Ben
Fenton placed runner up and Rikki Harris just two minutes adrift. Finally the
Novice class battle had three potential winners going into Ripon. Matt
Wakefield stayed ahead of the pack Championship wise, his fourth place on the
day saw him win the Novice Championship. Rees Leonard was just 2 seconds off
staying on the lead lap, his fifth on the day meant he wins the tie break for
runner up in the championship by virtue of the better final race result. Alan
Waller perhaps the most improved rider of the year was delighted to take third
place in the championship in 2019. Ben Beesley won the novice class at Ripon,
followed by Zane Butler and Elliot Woodall in Third.
The 2019 Rock Oil Championship has been a battle right down to
the final race of the year. This just goes to show that a solid 8 round
Championship, with all rounds counting is without doubt the way to go for
2020.
