The Welsh hill farmer and engineer helping motocross riders tackle theft UK-wide

As UK race events prepare to resume, bike owners can feel secure with BikeVice

A farmer and an engineer from Wales are helping motocross riders strike back against motorcycle thieves UK-wide with a new anti-theft device which secures bikes in seconds.

With many practice and training events now resuming following the Coronavirus outbreak in the UK, and race events set to follow suit, the new device is set to give motocross riders nationwide added security in an otherwise critical climate.

BikeVice allows owners to securely lock their off-road motorbike to the floor of any building or transport vehicle using a unique, lockable flip arm which can be quickly moved around any motocross bike wheel.

Welsh hill farmer Gareth Davies and engineer Phil Corke, of Bison Security, designed the device after motorcycle thefts rose in recent years for the first time in two decades*, and following the successful launch of their QuadVice device which prevents quad bikes from being stolen.

Phil, from Merthyr Tydfil, said: “As an engineer it was the obvious next step for me to start looking at how others might be able to benefit from a system we originally developed to support the farming community, and the motocross sector quickly emerged as one of those facing many similar issues.

“Motocross bikes have become a prime target for thieves in the same way quad bikes have in recent years, with hundreds of owners a week losing vehicles and/or unable to get insurance for their vehicles as a result.”

“The BikeVice has been designed to help motocross riders secure their high value vehicles at home or on the road with pick resistant locks and multiple anchor points, among other features, making them virtually impossible to steal as a result,” Phil added.

The BikeVice is one of three products on the market for Bison Security, which has won awards for the launch of its unique to market QuadVice and has also since launched a PedalVice device for push bikes too.

The Bison PedalVice is for any type of bicycle and has innovative casing that holds the bicycle’s pedal secure in the steel of its rigid frame.

Gareth said: “Our proudest moment so far has to be winning the British Farming Gold Award for most innovative machinery of the year for our Quad Vice, as proof of the quality of the product and as an endorsement from our target market.”

“We are excited and delighted to now be replicating this expertise for the benefit of vehicle owners in the motocross industry, who have also been suffering with the increasingly and very real threat of theft in recent years.”
