Putoline Mini Ravines Billy Bolt wins the 2020 ACU Extreme Championship 23rd August John Kerwin and his DirtBike-Action team were disappointed by the cancellation of their Extreme Ravines in April due to the Covid 19 pandemic so they leapt at the chance to host the penultimate round of 2020 ACU Fast Eddy British Extreme Enduro Championship at Helmsley on the 23rd of August. The 10 mile lap was the traditional mix of Hard Enduro going linking extreme sections and the deep dark ravines, The event attracted a full entry of 90 riders headed by the 2018 World Enduro Super Series Champion Billy Bolt and the reigning ACU Champion Jonny Walker. Three days of heavy rain had preceded the event and along with strong winds the planned 3 hour race was cut to 2.5 hours although the weather on the day was dry. The race was flagged away on time and from the start the battle was between Red Bull KTMs Jonny Walker and Rockstar Husqvarna's Billy Bolt with a lap time of 34 minutes. The lead swapped several times over the first 2 hours but on the final lap while Jonny was chasing Billy he clipped a tree and suffered an arm injury. Billy took the chequered flag and Jonny took a lift on a marshal's bike Will Hoare was not far behind in 2nd with Joe Deakin was 3rd, Like the top 3 Charlie Frost in 4th completed 5 laps. Big names Jono Richardson Sam Winterburn and Paul Bolton took an early bath while Jack Spencer struggled on with a leaking coolant pipe to get a finish. The Expert class was won by Stuart Mack. After a bad start with chain difficulties he put in a super human effort on the last lap to take victory. Tough 100 winner Lee Sampson was runner up and Dave Wood was 3rd. It was good to see the Irish boyos making the trip across the water with Harold Crawford taking the Elite Vets win with 4 solid laps of the grueling course. Paul Daley Smith 2nd and Paul Westgarth 3rd. In the clubman class Richard "the shepperd" Moorhouse took a well deserved win. Richmond rider Ben Tennant won a close race in the Sportsman class. Scott Hipwell was runner up and Anthony Turner was 3rd. Andy Longden topped the Sportsman Vets. Simon Nutter 2nd and Murray Shutter 3th. Brandon Burns was the top youth rider with a classic display of Northern Grit!! Doug Lote was 2nd and Ryan Thompson was 3rd. The future looks good with all 9 youth riders completing 3 laps The final round of the 2020 ACU Etreme series will be at H2O near Oswestry on Saturday 5th September.
