At Castelli Calepio Andrea Verona wins the seventh round of the Italian Championship by 5x100th of a second from Wil Ruprecht
Pure show that staged in Castelli Calepio (BG) today, Sunday 6 June, on the occasion of the penultimate stage of the Absolute Championship of Italy Enduro Borilli Racing – Ufo Plast 2021. The absolute victory, contested until the last moment, ended up in the hands of world champion Andrea Verona who riding his GasGas 250 4T became the protagonist of one of the most incredible race finals ever! The Vicenza-based side ticked it off for just 5 cents of a second on the ever-fierce Will Ruprecht, who didn't need to win six of the nine scheduled specials.
The seventh round of the most coveted tricolor and participated by the Italian endurists was a real feast of our off-road. The honor of organizing this crucial stage fell to the renowned Moto Club Lago d'Iseo, good at not disregarding the expectations of the eve by presenting a wonderful race seasoned by one of the most beautiful special views to date: the University of Enduro!
The Absolutes, who left exactly three months ago less than 30km from Castelli Calepio, in the placid Passirano, have again touched the record of members. On the occasion of the opening stage, 390 people had presented themselves on the starting stage while this time they were "satisfied" with only 370 riders registered between coppa Italia and Absolute.
Numbers that, once again, make you smile and demonstrate the perfect state of health of the Italian Enduro!
To welcome in a masterful way the cheerful band of off-roaders was the president of the Bergamo association Danilo Cadei who thanks to the support of the Municipality of Castelli Calepio and the authorizations granted by the Community of Lakes Bergamaschi prepared a real enduro race.
The festive air has been felt since Saturday when the technical checks began and fans were able to peep again inside the paddock to peek at their belongings. In fact, thanks to the trend of covid19 infection, which is decreasing throughout Italy, it has been possible to reduce the restrictions previously imposed by the State to contain the pandemic. It should be remembered, however, that the obligation to use the mask and respect for social distancing is always in force.
The event, valid as the first Memorial Giorgio Lanza and Franco Urniani – great enthusiasts and always sponsor of the MC Lago d'Iseo – engaged the participants with a 65 km tour divided into two sectors, repeated three times by both the drivers of the Italian Cup and those of the Absolutes.
In the first sector there were no specials and there was a transfer entirely by off-road vehicle. After passing through the second CO (with assistance), the riders found themselves walking the three special tests scheduled consecutively. The first to be addressed was the Extreme Test "X-CUP Motocross Marketing – Galfer". The extreme was made in a symbolic place of the Italian Enduro, the University of Enduro! A rocky terrain, in Foresto Sparso, used for more than 50 years for enduristic excursions, with a high technical rate and with an amount of 52 curves!
Immediately after the extreme we left for the Airoh Cross Test: drawn on a lawn with many counter-dependencyes, it engaged the fastest for about 4 minutes and 30 seconds within which were also crossed sections of undergrowth. The ground, very hard, has dug a lot with the passage of the laps creating a lot of dust.
The longest special was the Scott Enduro Test. The line branched out into a forest for a length of 5km and featured numerous ups and downs.
The start, which took place at 8:30 this morning, took place from the stage in the paddock area set up at the Mongodi sports center. The "Absolutes" started first and then gave way to athletes with the ranking above 130.
The absolute victory ended up in the hands of the young World Champion Andrea Verona for the first time he managed to climb the first step of the podium of the Absolutes of Italy Borilli Racing – Ufo Plast riding the official GasGas 250 4T.
A perfect race that of the blue talent who takes the revenge on Matteo Cavallo (TM Boano) also winning the class 250 4t where Samuele Bernardini (Honda) finishes third. Verona with constancy manages to counter the impressive return of Championship Leader Will Ruprecht. The Australian proves he is always the fitst driver of the moment but this time he pays a few too many mistakes in the only three specials not won today. Team TM Boano's bishop also takes the place in the special Airoh Cross Test Trophy.
Lowest step of the podium and outstanding performance for RedMoto French Theo Espinasse, good at shooting in the lead and staying there for more than half the race. The driver managed by the official Honda team manages to defend the absolute podium ahead of Belgian Antoine Magain (Sherco) and Betamotor Englishman Brad Freeman.
Sixth place, with respectable times, for the returning Thomas Oldrati (Honda RedMoto), first in the 450 ahead of the usual Alex Salvini (Honda – S2Motorsport) and Mirko Spendre (GASGAS – Sissi).
Davide Guarneri can already celebrate, with two races in advance, giving himself the title of Italian Champion in the 125 class. The driver of Team Fantic E50 Racing, of the manager Simone Albergoni makes the most of the retirement of Giuliano Mancuso (Fantic – D'Arpa) and celebrates one step away from home! Silver medal for Nicola Piccinini (GASGAS – Sissi) ahead of Roberto Rota (KTM).
The title is also closer for Lorenzo Macoritto (TM Boano) who also won this seventh test in the 250 2T over Maurizio Micheluz (Husqvarna – Osellini) and Guido Conforti (Husqvarna).
Usual battle between Gian Luca Martini (Beta) and Thomas Marini (TM Boano) in the 300 where the Tuscan riding the Beta 300 is the one who ticks it off. Welcome return to absolutes for the home rider Mirko Gritti (KTM) who finishes on the podium in third place.
Among the young people we witnessed yet another show of strength by Matteo Pavoni in the Junior that relegates Claudio Spanu (Husqvarna – Osellini) and Manolo Morettini (KTM) to second and third place.
Team Fantic D'Arpa Racing bishop Kevin Cristino returns to victory in the Youth class. The Piedmontese dominates the race and puts Behind Daniele Delbono (Fantic – E50) and Lorenzo Bernini (KTM).
Fiamme Oro won the ranking reserved for Moto Clubs ahead of Gaerne and the hosts of Lake Iseo while among the independent teams a solo victory for Osellini who won the Italian title.
In the Coppa Italia Borilli Racing – Ufo Plast absolute victory for Filippo Moletta (Husqvarna) who also won in the Senior class over Michele Zoppi (Beta) and Massimo Wolkow Mutti (Husqvarna). Second overall Federico Trabucco (KTM), first among juniors ahead of Alessio Beccafichi (Honda) and Luca Bontempi (KTM). Remaining among the young we pass in the Cadet class where Alessandro Guerra (GASGAS) is the best. Second place for Davide Nicoli (Husqvarna) and third place for Simone Angeretti (TM). In the Major he won the final victory of the Mirko Colombo class on the KTM 450 thanks to a second place of the day. First Marco Luvisetto (GASGAS) and third Luca Loss (KTM). In the 50th he won Manuel Vereroli (Vent) over Davide Mei (Valenti) and Luca Piersigilli (Beta).
Andrea Cervellin (Honda – Specia), in the 4 Times, and Andrea Gheza (Beta), in the 2 Times, always dominate the IMF Cup Borilli Racing-Ufo Plast 2021.
The award ceremony was held by Laura Magoni, Councillor for Tourism, Territorial Marketing and Fashion and CONI delegate of the Lombardy Region, Paolo Franco, Councillor for lombardy region and several local authorities.
The appointment with the #ASSITA2021 now goes to the last weekend of September when the last two decisive tests of this exciting twenty-one season will be staged in Fanna (PN) !
