EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE BY STEVE HOLCOMBE AT THE ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP

On Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd October the eighth and ninth rounds of the Italian Championships of Enduro were held in Castiglion Fiorentino, near Arezzo, for the last act of the 2022 season.

The Castiglion Fiorentino Motoclub Fabrizio Meoni, designed a race course worthy of a World Championship round, consisting of three highly technical and treacherous special tests, made almost impassable by the heavy rain that fell in the days leading up to the race.

As usual, the start at the paddock, located in the centre of the village, kicked off the race, followed by the first special test, an Enduro Test inside a forest, characterised by slippery and slippery terrain, followed by an Extreme Test inside a quarry, about 2 km long and full of difficult passages on rocks and inside a stream. The competing riders finally had to measure themselves against the last special test, a very fast Cross Test of over 3 km, characterised by muddy and grassy terrain.

In Castiglion Fiorentino the Beta Factory Enduro Team showed up with only Steve Holcombe while Brad Freeman remained out of action to recover from his sternum injury and arrive at the last of the World Championships ready to defend the E3 Class title.

Steve Holcombe ran an excellent race, recording excellent times in all three special stages. On Saturday the British rider, after leading the Overall for the whole day, had to settle for second place, which slipped away from him on the last special stage Cross Test. Also on Sunday Steve Holcombe finished second Overall, while in the Foreigners Class the British rider won both days of competition.

An excellent race also for Gianluca Martini, who collected a second and a third position in the 450 Class in Castiglion Fiorentino and ended the race weekend with second position in the Championship.

With the Italian Championship now over, the Beta Factory Enduro Team is preparing for the final act of the EnduroGP, which will be held in Germany at Zschopau on 15 and 16 October.
