Jane Daniels & Jed Etchells shine at the opening round of the 2023 Assoluti d'Italia

Jane Daniels put in two podium performances at the first round of the 2023 Assoluti d'Italia enduro championship on March 4-5. Teammate Jed Etchells meanwhile scored two highly-impressive top-10s in the talent-packed Assoluta (Overall) class. It was the first official outing this season for the JET Fantic Racing team which also saw solid performances from third teammate Harry Edmondson. All riding Fantic XEF 250s.

An ideal warm-up to the 2023 EnduroGP season, the race weekend offered a technical course with four special tests repeated three times each day, all before a large and excited crowd who had flocked to the Ligurian village of Andora (in north west Italy, close to the border with France).

For the occasion, the Moto Club Alassio, in collaboration with Track Inspector Mario Rinaldi, designed a race as challenging as it was spectacular, composed of a Cross Test on the beach of Andora, followed by an Extreme Test on hard and rocky terrain of 3.5km, a second cross test of the length of 2.5km and an Enduro Test lasting more than seven minutes in a wood.

Jane Daniels, on her season debut, immediately achieved excellent results, with a double podium in a class that included two of her rivals for the women's world championship. On day one Jane finished in second place, the following day taking the third step of the podium.

Jed Etchells also performed superbly, taking two excellent ninth places to go seventh in the standings of the hard-fought overall championship class - a field packed with top EnduroGP riders.

Reigning youth world champion Henry Edmondson, racing the four-stroke Fantic XEF 250 for the first time, used the weekend to familiarise himself with his new bike, so while not featuring on the leaderboard was showing his technical skills in all special tests.

The team will compete next at the second round of the Assoluti d'Italia di Enduro on March 18-19, in Grado on the Adriatic coast in North East Italy.

Jane Daniels:
"A good start to the season because the terrain and course here in Andora will be similar to what we will find in Arma di Taggia at the first EnduroGP world championship. I was also competing against two riders who will fight with me for the world title in the women's class so it's a great first measure of where my form is coming into the new year."

Jed Etchells:
"This was a good race in preparation for the start of the EnduroGP world championship, which is scheduled for the end of the month here in Liguria, at Arma di Taggia. I'm happy with my results from this first race but we will surely improve at the next race in Grado."

Harry Edmondson:
"Not one of my best races but I tried to learn as much as I could from the new bike and to find the right feeling. It was a good training and testing weekend, though; this was a top-level enduro competition with special tests that were very technical and demanding."

Matthew Savi, team manager:
"A good start to the season for all the Fantic JET Team riders. Jane Daniels got two very good results, Jed Etchells is improving day by day and will surely arrive prepared for the start of the world championship while Harry Edmondson is getting used to the change of bike and has to be very patient and determined at the moment."
