Opening of the Italian Enduro Championship.

The opening round of the Italian Enduro Championship took place this past weekend in Cavaglią, which is located a few kilometers from Lake Viverone in the province of Biella.

The event was organized by the Azeglio Moto Club which had to modify the route because of the weather conditions: they had to shorten the route and move most of the connections to asphalt roads. Despite all their efforts, the torrential rains forced them to cancel the race that was scheduled for Sunday.

On Saturday, the 175 riders who were on the program had to complete 5 laps that included 3 specials on each lap. The course was difficult to ride because of the heavy rains which fell in the preceding days. On the last lap, the Cross Test was not run, so 14 special stages were used to determine the ranking of this first round of the championship.

The Enduro Test was on soft terrain, with lots of rocks and roots. It was followed by the Extreme Test, which was 1.5 km long, which followed a ravine with rocks, and then a Cross Test, which was close to the paddock, in a field of grass. This test was canceled by the race director on the last lap because it had become impassable.

To ensure the safety of the riders, volunteers and at the same time, safeguard the local terrain, it was therefore decided to cancel the race that was scheduled for Sunday which gave way to the previous day's awards ceremony.

Hamish Macdonald turned in the 4th fastest time on his 300 SE 2T and had the 3rd best time in the "Foreign" category.

Wil Ruprecht finished 14th in the "Foreign" category after a big fall in a special where he lost a minute.

Jeremy Sydow went off the course in the Extreme Test and lost almost two minutes. His result did not reflect the good times he was able to achieve in the other specials. He took 10th place in the "Foreign" category.

The next race for our riders will be the Italian Championship, April 27 and 28 at Caltanissetta, in Sicily.

Wil Ruprecht

"The first round started well for me. I found my rhythm and I felt good, I was able to adapt to the conditions. I wanted to increase the pace in the second lap, everything was going well, and my speed was good, until a fall made me lose a lot of time. During the last three laps, I found the consistency and speed I was looking for. Unfortunately, it rained on the second day, and we couldn't race, but I supported the decision, because it was the safest and most reasonable for the riders and teams".

Hamish Macdonald

"This was my first race on the 300 2-stroke. I took my bearings during the first lap, and I increased the pace in the second. This strategy paid off, since it allowed me to achieve very good times on the second lap specials. I was able to improve my results throughout the times and win a special stage in the third round! The course was very difficult, and I am satisfied with the results. It was a good test and a nice way to get acquainted with the new bike."

Jeremy Sydow

"The race started well for me. In the second Enduro Test, I had the second fastest time, which gave me a lot of confidence! Unfortunately, in the Extreme Test that followed, I went off the course, which caused me to lose a lot of time, but I'm happy with my speed and it's very positive to see what is possible for me this year."
