SETRA
– 2hr Evening Hare n Hounds at Cusses Gorse - 4th June
With only 2 weeks to go before SETRA host their first evening hare n
hounds at Cusses Gorse Motocross complex, preparations are well underway
with putting together a course suitable for all riders. SETRA have been
working alongside the Barclay family and Daryl Bolter who have put together
a new course which offers something for everyone. Details
The evening race will be a 2 hour Hare n Hounds with classes suitable for
all; Championship, Experts, Experts O/40, Clubman A, Clubman A O/40, Clubman
B and Sportsman.
The race starts at 6pm at Cusses Gorse (closest post code SP4 6JW) and
will go on until 8pm.
Riders will start off on the main motocross track and will then have the
opportunity to experience the Cusses Gorse Supercross track which has not
been used for many years. Don’t worry though, we won’t have you doing
the 110ft triple or the 60ft double… this is an event suitable for all
riders! You will then race around the kids track before entering the small
woodland which has mixture of logs, roots, banks, rock field, manmade
obstacles with optional easy routes, an old farm building with staircase and
a few little jumps. We will be using the edge of one of the crop fields to
give you blast in-between wooded sections and then into the large grass
field by the car park which will be ideal for spectators. The grass field
will be perfect practice for those who are riding the Welsh 2 Day endure in
a few weeks!
To enter online please visit: http://www.setra-enduro.org/regs-entries/
There are no tyre restrictions for this event and spectators are welcome
but unfortunately no dogs are permitted on site. Refreshments and toilets
will be available.

Maytom Jones wins at Tidworth
SETRA MCC TIDWORTH 23-02-2014
Due to the nature of the land we knew that this event would not be
cancelled despite the rain and floods that have hammered the South East,
however the 5 mile lap of chalk and clay mixed with H2o is not the best
formula for grip, and apparently there was another event not that far way
and we still had a 100 rider entry with 20 being experts it had the making
of a tough event especially as Paul and Brad Armstrong had strong influence
on course lap (The Bastards) and not forgetting the hurricane winds that
turned up on Sunday morning that really showed Kaka's roots, a great turn
out for marshalls as well although i did see more than a few stuck at times
(Snigger Snigger), my only gripe which always happend at Tidworth is Course
cutting and today was no different and yes i have evidence and could name
and shame but that's not my style but they know i know ..... don't you.
Experts
Spoke to Tyson M Jones prior to the start and despite being full of man flu
and really should have been tucked up in bed but he told me how much he
loved Tidworth and was really looking forward to it and to me that meant he
was the one to watch and he did not let me down, Adam Kerr led as they past
me on the first lap and a seriously good lead at that with his very natural
but aggressive style, Royal Engineer Tom Ellwood was second with top Moto-Cross
ace Ben Milward in 3rd who sadly retired after 2 laps with a broken bike,
Tyson was 4th and took about 3 laps to reel in Adam and then pass and from
then Tyson used his experience and skill to control the race, Adam held on
to 2nd spot but was being caught towards the end by Phil Wiffen whose trials
skills were much needed and claimed the final podium, was a great result by
Aaron Fudge 4th as he sometimes fades towards the end of events but today
his fitness looked good and stayed focused and as ever the Entertainer, 5th
Tom Ellwood who did not put a wheel wrong from what i could see and have
high hopes for him this year, Darren Lee 6th who swapped his supermoto
wheels for ones with knobbles on today and have to say what an improved
rider and is very much at the pointed end of the experts and really has no
fear and love to watch him but he does need to ride regular to keep his mojo
going, late entry Neil Bowker getting a taste of his own medicine today (one
of Witley MCC's Course makers) and looked comfortable with conditions but
lacked enthusiasm or that's what it seemed like to me, Good to see Anthony
Marshall riding as the busy Insurance executive does not ride as much as he
would like but always puts in a good show, Matt Brown is not having the best
of seasons starts so far as had nasty off at the Witley Classic and today
and did looked the happiest chap out there but am sure it will all come good
soon, Jack Turner without doubt was one of the pre race favourites but broke
a chain and took 40 plus mins to fix but did get fastest lap as a
consolation prize and was seriously on it trying to make up time and very
much the risk taker, Michael Harlow needs to up his game as won't be long
before the fashion police catch up with him because green and orange don't
go together and he had the appearance of a vegetable on a motorbike, despite
this the Exeter man looked like he was having fun, Not the best of days
either for Dom Wilson who must have had a bad start as well down the board
when i first saw him but Dom true to form kept plugging away for a finish,
Clive Gammage posted a DNf but unsure why as thought course would have
suited the nutter, Steve Bird posted a DNF due to the night before's mammoth
sex session with the lovely Samantha....... surprised he even made the
start.... bless him,
Clubman A Class
Good mates James Pittaway and Olive Macrae vied each other for the lead for
the first lap like a pair of moto-crossers in a sprint race which made for
very entertaining race and they kept this dog fight up for a good few laps
but i felt their in-fighting let Royal Engineer Jake Purcell through to take
the lead, Pittaway dropped back after running out of fuel (Finished 7th) i
believe which spurred Macrae on and put in a good chase after Purcell but
the Royal Engineer was not fazed and took the top spot with Macrae 2nd,
Nathan Baggott got the final podium with a great race and basically held 3rd
place from start to finish so well earned and deserved especially after his
episode recently of trying to turn a KTM into a submarine "Aye Aye
Captain Baggott", CORE Off Road's Julian Earle kept the flag high for
the South Westerners and looked as happy as a pig in shit to be frank and
plugged away for 4th place and more importantly kept another CORE rider at
bay so he could claim the spot light and that rider was Jack Delve whom i am
sure leant that green kit to Michael Harlow and for that Jack you will go to
hell but a deserved 5th spot, 8th James Heath whom not seen for a long time,
9th John Gilbertson whom i thought was a lot higher placed as looked very
good and comfortable out there despite never smiling for the camera, Matthew
Lawrence achieved his goal by beating his buddy Alex Mace despite stopping
and trying a bit of abseiling without any rope.... not sure if it will catch
on though, Rob Knight loves his enduros and never gives up and today was no
different and has acquired some good skills but just needs a bit more speed
and pace to climb up the board, Alex Mace had some grit in his eye and
damaged a nail so was unable to continue and posted a DNF, Slim Tyrone got
the hump being the slower out of the CORE boys so after 4 laps pulled in and
had a cuppa and burger and pissed in Julian and Jack's shoes for showing
off, me thinks Slim is smarter than he looks, great to see John Wilmer after
such a long time and really looks the business for one lap and then sort of
goes downhill so a bit of fitness needed buddy
Clubman B Class
Daniel Dicker won many Sportsman races last year and has rightly gone up a
class and level and Deja Vue today as seemed very much the class act in this
class and can see him winning a lot of Clubman B races this year as he took
victory with some great riding skills despite his relative inexperience in
this sport, he was given a race though by the very experienced Ady Matthews
who has been plagued with bad luck in his last few events and i was so
pleased when he managed to finish and even more so to get a podium, 3rd went
to Paul Chalwin whom is another rider that seems to have made some good
improvements and can expect to see on the podium a bit more regularly and
judging by the state of his bike during the event he had a few tumbles on
the way, 4th to my good friend and Adam Playford who seems to enjoy the
South East events despite living a fair distance away and will be well
pleased with 4th, Shaun Tutt 5th just shows that riding a bit more regular
dusts off those cobwebs and rusty bits and the talent comes back and was
great to see a bit of confidence coming back and hopefully see more of this
year, 7th SEEC head honcho Carl Boraman who is very much the dark horse and
has some underlying skills and talent that are very much showing through and
i am expecting some podiums in the SEEC series this year, Fent Eastlake does
not have fond memories of Tidworth but never less keeps the momentum and
always posts a finish and am sure he will be happy with 8th spot, Pete Firth
9th whom has made good improvements over the last 18-24 months, Lee
Blackburn finished off the top 10 with a good steady ride and he does make
me chuckle as it looks like his eyes are outside his helmet sometimes as so
wide and full of concentration or maybe simply a birth defect, REME rider
Chris Robinson was having a ball in his back yard and very much enjoyed the
event, Pete Reynolds completed 7 laps despite suffering from a stomach upset
and should have stayed in bed but fair play my friend for putting in a good
show, Always a pleasure to see my mate Giggsy and glad to say he did not
retire or DNF but posted a finish and seemed to enjoy his monthly ride out,
Newcomer Lawrence Gordon had a real baptism of fire and hope he has not been
put off as put in a good display and hopefully see again, REME rider Joe
Sullivan had an unfortunate incident and wish him well, Kev Wells looked
comfortable but posted a DNf so maybe a problem i am unaware of, Simon
Gatehouse completed 3 laps but posted a DNF.
Veteran Over 40 Class
Chris Welch made an awesome start and just got into his groove and gelled
with the conditions and had a confidence that i have not witnessed before
and was making light work of the obstacles that Tidworth had and it looked
like victory was his but Manny Bernardez and all his experience had him in
his sights despite having no front brake lever and as they say "Eye of
the Tiger" and on the last lap he pounced and snatched the lead to take
the win and i feel there may be a few battles between these two in the
coming year, 3rd went to Road racing ace Simon Gates on a rare off road
event and was on same lap as leaders so a very credible podium, a very much
improved Frenchman in the name of Michael Toussaint was 4th, 7th Al Turner
laughs, giggles and grins like a Cheshire cat whilst riding ride and it
appears he really enjoys his riding or he smokes other stuff besides his
Benson's and will be loving the fact he beat Wayne "Banana Power"
Barnett whom i have all the respect in the world for and so enjoy our
banters and friendship ....... had ya then eh..... you rode like a girls
blouse so either man up or get a trials bike, Steve Head finished off the
top 10 with a credible 8 laps and no matter where he is riding or conditions
he enjoys himself and have to give him credit for tolerating the journeys
home with George and Mildred (Steve n Sam), Was great to see a TM out there
as a big fan albeit an old one but not quite as old as the rider Ian Mace
who completed 7 laps and could have done a couple more but called it a day
after hearing the bad news about son Alex breaking a nail, James French....
what can i say.... great man, great dad, amazing business man, good enduro
rider but he isn't no Superman despite trying to fly off the pyramid in
front of many and sadly it all ended very messy and very wet that ended his
day but please take a look at him having a mud bath on his photos on our
website rider 76,
Sportsman Class
Only sportsman to complete 9 laps and clearly the fittest in class was
teenager Jack French who very much deserved the class win and made a very
muddy Dad proud, Twins Paul and Ian Hannaford in their first enduro and both
put on a good show and very much enjoyed and credit to Ian who rode a trials
bike for 4 laps which must have been bloody tough and look forward to seeing
them both ride again soon, always a pleasure to see Myles Walshe whom when
riding he sort of reminds me of a giraffe on unicycle but i have no rhyme or
reason for my reckoning so on that i will sign off ...... till next time
