Jamie and Kiwi - the Battle of Butley Round two of the Eastern enduro championships, sponsored by GH Husqvarna, took place at Butley, in Suffolk, on Sunday Held in warm sunshine, with a bumper entry, the six mile lap consisted of farmland and wooded areas with a couple of boggy places which tested the riders. Woodbridge club's enduro supremo, Wilf Harvey and his gang had laid out an interesting course, and once again 2013 champion Jamie Roper and multi times champion Chris Hockey, battled for supremacy all day ,"Kiwi Chris Hockey won the first special test by six seconds but Jamie Roper had found some good lines and was six seconds clear on the second test. Richard Roper had also discovered some time saving areas which pushed Hockey down to third place. The same result occurred in the third test, so the scene was set for the rest of the day as these two battled for the win. After ten laps of the course it was Jamie Roper who took the win, losing just a one minute time penaltyas opposed to the flying Hockey's two minute penalty. Richard Roper took his Suzuki to a fine third place from Tom Braddock. Motocross star, Jason Morland was fifth and only a fraction of a second seperated Tom Howe and Sam Toy. Newly promoted Lewis Bond continues to impress - winning the nine lap experts class by almost ten seconds ahead of Runner up Glen Walsh. The over 40's expert class saw a good win for John Bishop who was well clear of the veterans, Mark Chapman and Gene Womack. Paul "Spud" Spurgeon had another good day to claim fourth place. Hertfordshire's Dean Goggins is settling into the enduro scene well, and was the only rider to record no time penalties. He won the eight lap clubman's group with ease. Ross Taylor was injured at the previous weekend's Sudbury event but he recovered well to take second place ahead of Will Hughes, Ben Alexander and Tom Sargent. This year, the clubman's group features a separate over 40,and over 50 class, and it was Diss club rider, Jason Fowler, who took the over 40's win, almost a minute ahead of the rest, whilst Paul Davis won the over 50's group, from Andy Mason, and 70's motocross star, Steve Finch.
