Events HARE & HOUNDS Season starter..Llandrillo Forest January 19th 2014. Report Keith Williams WOR Events kicked off the new year with a superb 2.5hour Hare & Hounds enduro at their weatherproof Forest complex near Corwen in North Wales. After all the consistent rain that has fallen in early January it is hard to think of any other venues that could have hosted a fun level event like this for all riders with hard standing Car parking and a track made up of flowing lanes and fire breaks with solid terrain under foot for 99% of the near 5 mile lap.
A steady turn out of riders took to the start line under some beautiful clear blue skies and set off to do battle as race boss Steve Ireland flagged away the experts at bang on 11am. A very strong line up of experts blasted off along the fire road start and into a long puddle section and out of site, By the time the leading rider was back at lap control he had a fair lead that he kept building for 6 laps. That rider was Young Lee Sealey whom was on a mission and looked so smooth and in control as mastered the forestry terrain.
Antoine Criq held solid for the runners up spot albeit nearly 6 minutes down on Forman. 3rd place in the Experts went to Lyndun Jones with a solid ride that had him sneaking the last trophy in class from the hard charging Rob Reese who suffered a DNF at the 12 lap point due to a snapped chain. Oliver Allbones was in superb form in the Clubman class as he took a 2.5minute advantage over runner up Gareth Jones, both Allbones and Jones on 13 laps with the 3rd placed Clubman Ben Roper on 12 laps. Top Clubman Veteran was the inform Julian Rylance as he did 13 laps and made Colin Griffiths work hard as the runner up chasing him. Glesni Jones was the events top lady rider and did a brilliant Job of winning the Sportsman Class by a clear lap, however more important to Glesni was that she cleanly put a lap on dad Rhodri who was competing in the Sportsman Vets class! Runner up in the Sportsman was newly promoted rider from the Novice class, Jack Hogwood. Hogwood once again making the long trip up from Kent worthwhile as he continues to improve with each ride. Third place in the Sportsman went to Matthew Mills with a spirited ride and a determined demeanour.
The youth class was topped by Will Criq from Sion Jones and Jack Mills with them all being a lap apart from each other on paper. Over in the Novice class it was Simon Wright with the win with a strong 11 laps from silver placed Martin Walker a further six minutes down and 3rd placed Daniel Heath a lap down on 10 circuits to his credit. The race ran without incident and as you would expect from the vastly experienced WOR team the quality of the course and the organisation was second to none, even the Sunshine stayed out for the race duration. There are a very busy few months ahead for WOR Events and their growing band of followers, more details on all the exciting projects and championships can be found at www.worevents.com A big thanks goes out to all the riders, helpers, caterer's, medics and landowners involved in making the event happen.
