Walker Secures Winning Result In France KTM’s Jonny Walker has claimed his debut win in the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship, securing overall victory at the final round of the 2015 series in Cahors, France Ending his participation in the 2015 championship on a high, Walker delivered what was comfortably his best result of the series to take the top step of the podium. With an overall victory having eluded him prior to the French event,
Jonny was determined to produce a winning performance in France. From the
word go, Walker looked smooth, fast and dialled in to what was an extremely
tight, technical and unforgiving course. In the driving seat to secure the overall win heading into the third and final race, Walker made no mistakes and again delivered a solid race. Knowing exactly what he needed to do, the KTM rider again quickly fought his way to the front of the field. Leading the majority of the race to take the win Jonny secured his very first overall SuperEnduro victory. After his misfortune at the previous round in Brazil, where a track side banner became wedged in his rear wheel, Walker’s strong results in France elevated him to third overall in the final championship standings. Jonny Walker: “I’ve been chipping away at getting an overall
win for a while and now finally it’s happened it feels great. In Brazil I
was so close but then it all fell apart in the final race. Here in France I
felt good on the track from practice. It was tight and tough Results – FIM SuperEnduro World Championship, Round 6 Tough One Victory For Jonny Walker Jonny Walker has continued his winning ways in 2015, claiming victory at The Tough One extreme enduro. Topping the event for the first time ever having lead from start-to-finish, Walker is now two-for-two having also topped Hell’s Gate three weeks earlier… Jonny, a first win at The Tough One. How’s it feel to have finally won a major extreme enduro event on home soil? Jonny: “I’m really pleased with this result. Graham [Jarvis] is a hard guy to beat, but I really wanted to keep things rolling on from my Hell’s Gate win. Conditions were night and day different to that race, but this win wasn’t easy. My plan was to try and get a good start, which I was able to do. After that I just managed my lead. It’s great to finally be able to get a Tough One win.” A lot of riders suffered with arm pump in the early laps, but you seemed to be able to push hard from the start… Jonny: “It’s always hard going from cold to full-speed straight away. But I guess the run to my bike warmed me up. Maybe also racing the SuperEnduro events helped, as there’s not much warm-up with indoor races. Like I said I just tried to not make mistakes, which having got a good start was a little easier to do. I felt pretty good from the start.” You lost a little time mid-race, why was that? Jonny: “I didn’t read my pit board properly. I thought it said last lap, which thinking about it there’s no way it could have been, and I slowed down a little. The board said something like ‘1 lap till final hour’. It wasn’t too much of a problem as I still had a good lead. I managed that gap and stayed out of trouble during the final hour so everything was fine.”
Jonny: “I was ready for whatever the conditions were going to be really. It was much nicer than the cold and snow we had at Hell’s Gate, but not what everyone’s used to at Nantmawr Quarry. When things are drier it makes some of the climbs and the rocks a little easier, but it was still tough. It was still easy to make a small mistake and for that become a bad lap. I was pleased that I only made one mistakes.” You were also in action in the Barcelona Indoor Enduro, how was that? Jonny: “It was great. Not the result I'd hoped for finishing fifth but a really enjoyable event. It was good to get back on my 250cc four-stroke ahead of this weekend’s SuperEnduro final round. That’s going to be an important race for me after my issues in Brazil. I’ve got some work to do…” Results – Tough One 2015
Frustration For Walker At Brazil SuperEnduro It was a case of close but no cigar for Jonny Walker at the fifth round
of the 2015 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Following two strong showing in the night’s opening races – including
victory in race two – the Brit saw his chances of an overall event win
ended when a track side banner became lodged in his rear wheel early in the
night’s final race. Race one saw Jonny start second, hold the runner-up result throughout the race and finish second. Despite not feeling 100% things improved for Jonny in the reverse start order second final as he quickly made his way into the lead, a position that he held to the chequered flag. Crashing with Cody Webb off the start of the final race was anything but what Jonny needed in his quest for the overall win, but thankfully he was uninjured and back up and racing in no time. Catching a trackside banner in his rear wheel, which stopped his bike, Jonny was forced to do all he could to remain in the race. Needing assistance to remove the banner Jonny was later disqualified, giving him a fourth place overall result. Were Jonny to have placed third or higher in the final race in Brazil he would have headed to the final round of the series second in the point standings behind team-mate Taddy Blazusiak. Instead Jonny currently sits fourth, 13 points from the runner-up position. Jonny Walker: I’m gutted to have lost out on my first overall victory. I was really ill in the build up to the event in Brazil and wasn’t at my best physically, but still managed to get a good result in the opening two races. It was all on the line for the overall in the final race and unfortunately I crashed with Cody Webb in the first turn. What really messed up my chances of an overall win was getting a trackside banner stuck in my rear wheel – locking it up. I couldn’t get it out alone and outside assistance resulted in being disqualified, but I had to try. It’s hugely disappointing and a bad end to what should have been a great night.” The sixth and final round of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship takes place in Cahors, France on March 14. THIRD FOR WALKER AT SUPERENDURO MEXICO Securing another podium result in the 2015 SuperEnduro World Championship, Jonny Walker finished third overall at the GP of Mexico. In doing so he closes to within three points of the runner-up spot in the SuperEnduro championship standings with two rounds remaining. Returning to indoor enduro racing once again following his winning ride at the Hell’s Gate extreme enduro, the first of the SuperEnduro series’ two ‘over seas’ races saw Jonny once again setting a fast pace. Reverting back to a 250cc four-stroke the night started well for Jonny, as he placed as runner-up in the opening final. Race two saw the reversed order start, with Jonny quick to make his way towards the front of the field. Finding good lines through and across the tracks many obstacles Jonny again placed in a strong second position. The third and closing final was the only race during which things didn’t go as planned for Jonny. Riding well and looking to continue his impressive run of results he found himself caught behind Spain’s Alfredo Gomez and unable to break away and battle with race leaders Taddy Blazusiak and Cody Webb. Despite his frustrations Jonny secured a fourth place result and in finishing third overall closes to within three points of second in the 2015 SuperEnduro World Championship standings. Jonny Walker: “I finished on the podium again, which is great, but I’m not really that pleased with the way I rode in the last final. I made some mistakes that could have been avoided, and without them I could have got a better result. I felt a little bit stiff on my bike in the first race but got third, which was an ok start to the night. I felt good in the second race and came through to get second but just ran out of laps. I didn't get a great start in the third final and spent too long behind a few riders. A little bit more aggression probably would have got me to the front sooner, but it’s easy to say that after the race. My speed was good and it’s been fun racing here in Mexico, I hope things will go well in Brazil next weekend.” Round five of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship takes place in Belo Horizonte, Brazil on February 28, 2015. WALKER WINS Hell’s Gate EXTREME ENDURO Jonny Walker collected his second extreme enduro victory in as many events on Sunday, following what the factory KTM rider described as ‘the hardest race I’ve ever done’. Overcoming strong competition and punishing weather conditions Jonny secured his first ever win at Hell’s Gate in impressive style… Jonny, two races into the 2015 extreme enduro season and two wins. You
must be pleased with the way your ‘outdoor’ season has started?
By interesting you mean difficult, right? The water caused problems for many riders, did you have any
problems? Early on it looked like it might be a two-rider battle between Graham
and yourself. What was going through your mind when you saw Graham’s bike
drown? Despite the difficult conditions you must be pleased with the way you
rode? Finally, it’s back to the SuperEnduro series this coming weekend… Hell’s Gate 2015 - Overall results 1. Jonny Walker (KTM) 2. Mario Ramon (KTM) 3. Lars Enockl (KTM)
Claiming his second final win of the 2015 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship Jonny Walker finished in third place overall at round three of the series held in Helsinki, Finland. Following on from his victory at the RECENT Alès Trêm extreme enduro event in France, Walker produced a 4/1/3 scorecard inside the Messukeskus Arena, the event that marks the mid-way point of the Superenduro series. It was an anything but straightforward night for the KTM racer. Not posting a top eight fastest time in timed practice, Jonny missed the cut for the SuperPole session meaning he didn't receive a top eight gate pick. Made to work hard during both the opening and third finals, he fought his way forward to finish fourth and third respectively. It was in the second final that Jonny delivered his best result. Gating well and leading from the start he put together six mistake free laps to claim the win. Jonny joined Taddy Blazusiak and Cody Webb on the night’s overall podium. Jonny Walker: “What happened in qualifying was my own mistake. I should have known it was only six laps. I just didn't get a clear lap. I guess I should have pushed to get a time on the board and then hoped for a clear lap, but we’re not out on track for long so I guess it just happened the way it did. But things worked out well for me considering. I finished third overall so I got another podium result, which is good. And I won the reverse start order second final. Starts are always important indoors, and not getting a top eight qualifying time actually worked in my favour in the second final. I was able to start on the front row, and that really helped. I got a good start and rode smart to take the win. Things went well in the first and third finals too. All in all it was a good event for me. Now I have Hell’s Gate and then the fourth and fifth rounds of the SuperEnduro series…” Round four of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship takes place in Guadalajara, Mexico on February 21, 2015. Red Bull KTM’s Jonny Walker opened his Extreme Enduro season with flair and a win in a brand new event, the Alès Trêm in France on Saturday. The British rider, also Friday’s prologue winner, came home ahead of rival Graham Jarvis. Red Bull KTM factory teammate Andreas Lettenbichler took third place. Alès Trêm a venue new to all riders kicked off what promises to be a great Extreme Enduro season and it was a definite confidence booster for Walker to pull off a victory over Jarvis, a man who is traditionally one of the toughest and most wily in any extreme competition. It was also a warm up for the traditional Hell’s Gate in Italy next month, an Extreme Enduro that takes no prisoners. The new French event also attracted 400 starters, an indication of the increasing popularity of the sport. Jonny Walker: “For a new race it’s been great. It was hard work, and some parts of the track were really technical on the last lap, but generally it wasn’t overly difficult. Being the first rider to start the first lap meant that I didn't have any tire tracks to follow. I got lost for a short time on the second lap, and dropped back to third. But I pushed really hard on the final lap and everything went well. Like I said it’s not been overly difficult, but really enjoyable. The prologue on the first day was also great fun.” Walker, a Red Bull athlete who had a decisive win in the Red Bull Hare Scramble at the 2014 Erzbergrodeo and also won the Red Bull Romaniacs has made positive start to what could be another great racing season in the extreme discipline. Details
Jonny Walker has finished third overall at the second round of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship held in Riesa, Germany. Marking the re-start of the SuperEnduro series following the Christmas and New Year break, Walker took the win in the third Prestige final to ensure a hugely positive start to 2015. Frustratingly for Jonny during the night’s opening final a lapped rider crashed in front of him, leaving him with nowhere to go. Dropping from fourth to ninth, Jonny battled his way back to sixth. As always the reversed start order for the night’s second final ensured plenty of drama. Managing to keep out of trouble during the opening laps Jonny progressed from ninth to as high as third, eventually placing a strong fourth. Delivering his best result of the night in the third and closing final Jonny ended the opening lap second, hot on the heels of race leader Taddy Blazusiak. Briefly losing ground, with four laps to go Jonny pounced on a mistake by Taddy and moved into the lead. Remaining out front Jonny secured the win and with it a third place overall result. Jonny Walker: “It’s great to get a win here in Germany, and to have topped the Superpole like I did at round one. I lost a little time behind a lapped rider in the rocks early in the last race, and lost a bit of time on Taddy. I pushed hard to catch him and then he went down, which made my job a whole lot easier. I felt good in the lead and stayed out front to take the win. My speed is good – when I have a clear track ahead of me I know I’ve got the speed to win. It just seems I had a few issues when I was trying to work my way forward during the first two races. I was fourth in the first race and got taken out by a lapped rider. I was way back in ninth so to finish sixth wasn’t too bad. In the second race I finished fourth, which from the reversed start was good. Winning the third final is a big thing, it proves that I can do it. All in all it’s been a very positive race for me. It’s great to be on the podium first race out in 2015…” Round three of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship takes place in Helsinki, Finland on February 1, 2015.
